Before Capoeira was systemized by the great Mestre Bimba, it was nothing more than street fighting. Before it was a street fighting style, it was a form of self defense for African slaves as well as a form of cultural identity. Capoeira's a multi purpose art form and the fighting techniques can be just as deadly as in arts like Muay Thai or Karate.
@lilbosss34 then the seccond start throwing punches (he actually got me a couple times..) nd den he threw a high kick nd i jus did esquiva de frente and den banda nd i took him down and did ahu de frente sin mau and landed right by hes stomach so he couldnt breath xD then da other foo stands up nd jus run towards and i jus move to the side a lil nd he keeps going nd i jus vensau on hes back.. nd back to the floor xD den i jus pick up my stuff and leave.. xD lmao
@lilbosss34 i beat to advance karate foos at the same time while i was practising capoeira at the beach i was sorta challanging them lol cuz they were practicing nd den i started practicing next to them nd den dey started laughin at me and den i jus look at them nd laughed back at them nd gave them a come here sighn nd dey came up all throwing kicks nd punches at me nd shit nd im jus chilling moving around dodging nd then this foo throws mee a kick nd i counterd with a meia lua.. KO lmao
I wonder if it occured to the uploader that the death was more the result of the poor defense Capoeira teaches, rather than the kick. Or perhaps a medical flaw in the victim, 'eggscale skull' for instance.
I tried both Capoeira and kickboxing. I'd never ever want to fight, ring or street, in Capoeira style. It would be suicide. It works against itself, or against unskilled people. Kickboxing? I hope to win next year's student championships. The techniques are easier and more effective.
@Blahb27 I believe it's not the martial art that judges itself, it's the individual that judges the martial art. You said you'll never use Capoeira in the street, but last time I checked, many Capoeira techniques came from street fights.
@Blahb27 When has a martial art ever been 'easy' to learn? Plus, many of the kicks in Capoeira are the same in nearly every other martial art. Just depends on the fighter, not the style. True fighters know that.
@theprinceofspain Almost the same? Mate, give examples, because I think they're about as far different as they can be. Capoeira uses spinning motions, kickboxing powers pretty much all kicks from standstill, and explosively. They're close to opposites than to being the same.
@Blahb27 Capoeira's 'martelo' kick is a simple roundhouse kick, 'chapa' is side kick, 'bencao' is a push kick, 'ponteira baixa' is a front snap kick, etc. Capoeira just puts a lot of it's own kicks. My fellow kickboxers punches, elbows and spin kicks aren't even as strong as my normal roundhouse. Both styles are different yes, but how you use them is the important part. A kick is still a kick at the end of the day, regardless of art.
@theprinceofspain Excellent. Bruce Lee said when he started the martial arts, a kick was just a kick and punch was just a punch. He said, as he continued to train a kick became more than a kick and a punch more than punch. He said when he was done training and mastered it, a kick was just a kick and a punch was just a punch. lol..Yep. At the end of the day it's all about how you put them together.
THANK YOU!!!! and now us capoeiristas of today that believe in the fight of capoeira have to clean all that shit up. But with that in mind we can't let that digress our minds from the rituals and the friendship, as "eulermlage" said, of capoeira. being the fight that it is we must remember that it is much more than a fight for most mestres and even some graduados it's a lifestyle.
I'm from Brazil, I played Capoeira for 5 years and I can tell you that this is not a real Capoeira. In a "Roda de batizado " (Baptism Ring) like that the most important think is to celebrate the friendship between the "camaradas" and not to hurt somebody. All martial arts if not properly praticized can be mortal.
Reading description and these comments makes my brain hurt. It looks like some people have taken one to many blows to the head, is grammar and correctly made sentences a bad thing? But about capoeira its a beautiful dance but in real fight its really risky you have your knee joints open on bad kick and up career can be over.
It's low stances, versatile takedowns, and well delivered kicks and strikes make it more formidable than you think. The dance aspect is in fact as optional as Kata are.
@ace142 Capoeira moves are more deceptive than they appear to be. What appears to be a simple dance actually involves a series of blocks and evasions. This was quite appropriate for slaves because it looked like a simple pretty dance. However it has the ability to strike and protect the fighter from any angle. The force behind the kicks when measured on fight science are basically just as hard as most martial art kicks.
I agree i joined Taekwondo 2 months ago and i double belted to yellow belt and can beat a 3rd degree brown belt in Karate with a axe kick.(For my age 3rd Degree brown belt is highest since u have to be 16 for Black belt.) atleast in canada
@EPR89 the only rule we had was that if the other guy was down, let him get up if he can.If he can't, for any reason then the one standing won. Also,no eye gauges and groin shots.Anything else goes.
that guy is all acrobatics no fight and for capoeira its just a crappy tkd style he doesnt even ginga
and how he kicks u know how he just bounces around on 1 leg and tryin to kick at u with the other what idiot kicks like that i could kick this guy's ass a real capoerista would either sweep kick him or just grab his leg and slam his dumbass and why is he the only one wearin head protection when none of his opponents do?
No, I also know that scene, and I saw the movie(it was crap) but what Im talking about is real. But that was just one stupid man. Lot's of great capoeiristas go and win.
First of all, Capoeira was one of the original Vale Tudo arts. Vale Tudo later became MMA. Besides, there is a big difference between fighting capoeira & playing capoeira. Capoeira focuses on appying you're techniques without hurting anyone.
what are you talking about? capoeira was not the original vale tudo you idiot. i did capoeira for 6 years under mestre gato and prof israel .. i know all about capoeira and how it started. your just talking pure rubbish. Any real capoerista will also tell you your an idiot.
The capoeira in this video is crap, pure scrappy and bad techniuqe. Some groups do play hard capoeira but thats nothing like vale tudo .
Look at grupo topazio, they use hard games as part of there training but if you see one of there rodas compared to this filth you will see the difference. capoeira has nothing to do with mma or vale tudo and never has.
youtube pisses me off somtimes with people like you that think you know what your talking about. you can always tell the idiots from the people that train capoeira and mma. because the idiots never know what there talking about and always say stupid things like you!
Just want to say I wasn't laughing at what happened in the video but that I was about to put this clip up too. But that does suck what happened. My teacher also has footage of the annual carnival in Brazil & street gangs trained in capoiera and BJJ go to street fight. It looked crazy. Vale Tudo definatly has it's roots from capoiera and other styles.
Lol! Crazy! I have this and was thinking about putting this up too. Many people in the U.S. aren't aware that capoeira has a history of being able to kill their opponents in Brazil. I was shocked to know that so many people die from capoeira each year.People don't see that if you take out the acrobatics and dancing, you have the same basic martial art techniques found in all martial arts. I believe that' Groupo Abada in this clip.
Yeah unfortunately he did die. When I 1st saw this,my capoiera teacher had to translate the news but the guy got kicked by a pontiera or front snap kick. This kick was actually suppose to be banned in rodas cuz of the injuries & deaths from it by kicking and breaking the ribs. That's what happened to the guy and punctured his lung. He walked out and fell down then died later. They really should have stopped that though.
tudo bem ta certo que este ai morreu foi uma falalidade mas capoeira e isto mesmo e luta e porrada e ginga e isto mesmo esta e a verdadeira capoeira
