Marc, Great post. Just wanted to drop in and invite you to put up a few digits on cow-pi.com. Right now our record in only 3600. You could crush it! Especially since you seem ok with typing out your digits. A lot of people who verbally recite say typing them makes it harder.
@boxabicus Sure - I agree with you - so it isn't important; doesn't fulfill my entire life, I know. :-) But it was a challenge and a goal to achieve at the time all the same though.
"theres no difference between saying ive wasted my time than saying the man who climbed everest wasted his time". On the otherhand, the guy that first climbed everest wasn't a fat, boring american with terrible facial hair.
Also, from wikipedia: "While the decimal representation of π has been computed to more than a trillion digits ... the decimal representation of π truncated to 39 decimal places is sufficient to estimate the circumference of any circle that fits in the observable universe with precision comparable to the radius of a hydrogen atom."
There is nothing stupid about understanding the importance of pi. The world and its structures would not be the same if man had not come to understand and implement pi in engineering. Let's see, do you have any real talent..besides posting negative things on youtube all day.
this is when i don't feel like such an idiot for playing warcraft when there are people that will memorize a number and type it out... 1000 digits... actually, I do feel like an idiot now!
Much unlike the rest of the commenters here, I actually admire people who can perform such feats. I'm up to just over 1,000 digits myself and am certainly not ashamed of it!
@dmanschaumbizzie I take a string of 50 digits at a time and read it flat and dull at first, then read it again and try to make some smaller strings of numbers (anywhere between 3 and 8) that seem to go together in a bit of rhythm. Once I get all the numbers in that line in such smaller strings, I recite it quite a few times to get a good hang of it. From there on, I just say it a couple times a day most everyday. Eventually, it becomes pretty unforgettable, even after months of no recitation.

@boxabicus Pretty good! Memorizing Pi is not an earth shattering thing to do - but like anything else in one's spare time, it's fun to do...

xD You're great!
I'm only 9, and I hate math, but Pi is the only thing about math interesting to me.

Martin Armstrong has great examples of pi in his cycle theory.
It is present at many different time scales.

Two questions...
What is the point?
What is the real value of this stupidity?

Being as mathematical as he must be, I can't believe he does the number pad with one finger.

@pireciter12 is there a trick at all to memorizing it? or is it in no order or anything?
