can any one point the way to any information about metal to glass bonding techniques? I know in scientific glass blowing a lot of metal to glass bonding is used in vacuum tubes like in old crooks tubes and things like this? Thanks
no actually you cant make that much money making bongs. you can make an ok living but dont expect to live too comfortably making smoking glass especially while its still technically illegal to do so. I doubt even the owners of roor usa make that much money. and yes like wow mentioned youd have to be an extremely talented flameworker to make enough money to make it worth investing the 10's of thousands of dollars it costs to run a well equipped glass studio.
@iobject i imagine blowers for name brand companies do ok, i know illadelph only hires people with scientific blowing degrees so they probably get good pay. but i think your right that private blowers don't make that much.
@plumcrazypurp, I'm a glassblower, but do it more as a hobby now; Love it, but got tired of the heat. I've known many glass blowers, and no, you don't have to work for a big name company to make money. One of my good close friends started out making beads and now owns his own studio with people under him. They make all sorts of things, and yes, one of their main production items are pipes. It's all about skill level, marketing, and location.
LPG is Liquefied Petroleum Gas, a mixture of propane and butane(not natural gas), the exact mix depends on company and season, propane has a lower vapor pressure than butane, so it us used more heavily in summer.
I want to get more information about glass tech. program. I am beginner, but I wish I can start my owen glass fabricating in my hometown. I want to know there are training obout this and how much we must invest for small lab. glass?
i had emailed asu awhile back about their scientific glass apprenticeship program and they told me the program is now defunct. so i enrolled at salem .good luck to you.
this is not the only scientific glassblowing program in the country, Salem Community College's scientific glass technology program has been in existence for around a half a century. And you will actually learn to straighten a point while you are there.
