max has a great UI, you've lost your mind. blame yourself not the UI, it is 100% programmable. there are so many new features. you went into maya (which uses max features from 2002-2003) and is also becoming more descript in the UI.
Out of personal experience I can tell you that Poser is WAY easier by far, you don't really create much with it, but you can mess around with a lot of pre-made packages and addons available for it.
i've used this software but i don't understand it but i can move the character and i don't know how to change clothes and i'm now using mudbox wich is more easier
Well, feel free to look for my Poser tutorials that I have in my channel, they're divided in tools for posing your models, conforming hair and clothing, and keyframe animation, they're for beginners and are not hard to understand and will help you to get a good start with the software ;-)
it has nothing to do 3ds max and Poser... they both have different proposes... 3ds it's the most complex tool for 3d design ever made... Poser it's a figure\character creating tool.
I am learning 3ds max and Vray about 1 year now, ad it's very hard.
@dangraphic I've tried Maya and XSI, not Houdini...but I prefer 3ds mostly due to the amount 3rd-party plugins you have to your disposal, just an opinion... but now I work for architecture and interior design not characters... there are people working with all sorts of software these days, but 3ds is the one that works better for me.
Yeah for architecture 3ds Max fits well. But that doesn't make it the most complex as you stated.
With regards to plugins, good packages like Maya have little need for plugins, nearly everything you could want is included. I've been using Maya for 9 years professionally in 3d modeling for games and have yet to use all of it's features.
@dangraphic There is no away of determining exactly the complexity of this pieces of software... I already had the discussion with a colleague that works with Maya and reached no conclusion... till a few version ago 3ds Max would not run on Mac OS, not even emulated, my colleague has Macs so he prefers Maya, I have PC's and I prefer 3ds Max... but what made my choice fall onto 3ds was the fact that Vray became available for 3ds much sooner then Maya... When I started Maya only had Mental Ray...
Either you're ignorant or just to young. We're not discussing the limits of the observable universe here. There certainly IS a way of determining the complexity of software. It's a coded program, the limitations and features are documented and well known. Nothing imponderable at all. I don't know you're background, but I was one of the original Beta testers for 3ds Max when Discreet owned it
I've been using 3d applications since the Amiga in 1992 so I can assure you I know what I'm talking about.
You mention MAC... what does MAC have ANYTHING to do with 3d? It's MAC has NEVER been a forerunner platform for 3D work and yes I've owned MACs since the very beginning. The best MAC had was Strata Studio when we were already using the predecessor of 3D Max on DOS.
@shadman1911 I don't know your friend who works with Maya, I mentioned not having used the entire features is primarily not because it's a dark, impenetrable Pandora's box where no one knows what's in it! It's mostly due to the fact that I can use 10% of the application and get work done.. it's a POWERFUL program. Oh and I LOVE 3d MAX, it's a solid workhorse... but it's neither the best 3d App nor the most complex, this is a well known industry position. reasonwhy it costs 3x less than Maya.
@dangraphic Is there anything like FumeFx, Multiscatter, Vrayscatter, Krakatoa, Vue Xstream, Real Flow (integration) for Maya? ... I felt in love with 3ds when I started in this venture, back then there was no Vray available for Maya... only the less realistic Mray... so I just kept using it till today, also there are much more availability of tutorials, models and full scenes on-line for 3ds... Do you like Mudbox and Zbrush? Thanks for your comments...
Oh and by the way, Maya is not primarily a MAC application either, it's a port over from SUN work stations, which have nothing to do with *blehg* Macs.
that's ironic really, i used to use 3ds max exclusively then i had to change to maya for school, now after using maya for about a year i can bearly do anything in 3ds max any more, granted that might have to do with the new versions (2009-2012) horrible UI's

either you make your clothes in a 3rd party application like 3ds, or you can buy it from Daz3d or Renderosity.
shadman1911 2 years ago

LoL 3ds Max is hardly the "most complex", try "Houdini", "Maya" or "XSI" these could be considered complex... at least more than 3ds Max.
