He had produced a documentary film on the Beatles in 1970 but both George and Paul said they would not participate. So that killed the project. It set on a shelf for 20 years. Paul began to favor the idea of getting it out following John's death, and George finally gave his OK around 1990.

My own view is despite some moments when George appeared to laugh or smile, overall he wasn't thrilled about participating in the Anthology. He was never one to talk about his Beatle past and never really wanted to work with Paul again. My guess was that the money was too good to pass up, for what little time involvement was required from him. So once again he played the game.
