Larmore's Non Piu Mesta is even better than the current Elina Garanca who sings Cenerentola. Larmore has great mezzo-coloratura technique. I've loved all her roles.
Her ornament at 1:54 ... wow! Von Stade is still my favorite in this role - she gets the character best - and Bartoli probably has the best "Non piu mesta" when it comes to pyrotechnics, but Larmore's rendition is brilliant as well. (Ditto for diDonato and Berganza.)
Have you watched the film version directed by Jean Pierre-Ponelle and starring Frederica von Stade? I admit, it rather spoiled me for all other versions of the opera.
Ah yes, I know other people who don't like opera films, but many of them say this one is an exception. Maybe it would be for you too. There certainly isn't another Cenerentola like it on DVD (or CD)!
You're welcome. Sorry if I seem overly assertive, but I just finished watching it again (with my five-year-old sister, who also adores it!) and was overwhelmed with the beauty of it. Anyway, I shall now abandon the subject and allow everyone to enjoy Larmore's exceptional rendition of this aria.
@nclysander von Stade is probably my favorite mezzo, but I find that, especially in "non piu mesta", that her voice is just too big for it. I don't know - something about it.
@nclysander The part that always used to amaze me (this was over ten years ago and I was brand-new to opera then) was the coloratura passage directly after that where everything comes out seamlessly connected, and apparently all in one breath! I would listen to that part over and over again.
Wow! What a voice...she is a "Schnauzer person" and easy on the eyes (and ears), too! Thanks for posting this.

@bodiloto If Jennifer Larmore is a soprano, who's a mezzo, then??? You know, mezzo sopranos are allowed to sing above of high F...

I've watched some exerpts, personally, I don't like film-operas, but yes, von Stade is a great one too!

I will rate this with 5 stars, but I like Bartoli's interpretation much nore. If I could rate Bartoli's with 6 stars, it still wouldn't be enough.

Of course, Bartoli is better on this aria, but Jennifer does it amazingly good... one of the best Cenerentolas I've heard.
leoperarm 3 years ago
Yes! True! Jennifer is one of the best coloratura mezzos ever. No doubt about that! And yes! I agree she is one of the best Cenerentolas.

Unlike the person who rated this before me, I think this is great. I love this "smoky" velevety mezzo voice that is also amazingly agile.

Yes, thank you, I don't know who's rating 3 stars on EVERY video I upload :((

Now that is well said! Thank you!
