Everything was going fine except for one very important thing. What happened to the end result? I would have liked to see the front end, just to know what it looks like.
@pakameter Sorry, I ran out of time on the video. YouTube only gives me 10 minutes maximum. YouTube won't even let me add a full link URL here. Send me a private message and I'll send you a link to see the final results. Richard
Thanks Richard for this great video even it didn't work for me.
I want to be able to list all the products on one page (table), and add multiple products to cart with one button . how I'm suppose to do this ? please help
@Happyfamilly2020 If I understand you correctly, you want all the child products to be purchased together with one click, rather than having a separate add to cart button for each. If that's the case, then edit the parent product and test the different settings in the second tab "Display Options". In the section List Style try the option for "One Add to Cart Button" instead of "Add to Cart Button for each Child Product".
@Happyfamilly2020 I just saw that you want to list all child products on one page in a table. There's another setting for that. Go to Virtuemart Admin Configuration. Click the tab for Site. In the right column right under Layout there's "Select the theme for your Shop". Click the link for Configuration next to that. Then set the Product Style List popup to Flat Product List (Fixed to 1 product per row, using a table).
Richard - I want the Child Images under the Main image to display either image name or alt tag. They do not show up in FF. Can you please tell me what I'm missing? Thanks ytnaynay66
@ytnaynay66 This is what works for me: I add all the images to the Parent product. The main image entered in the Product Images tab of the parent, and the child images added from the Product list by clicking in the Media column. In the new window, click New button to upload extra images. Near the bottom there is a field for "File Title (what the Customer sees)". Type your image name here. This will show as a tooltip under the main image, and title in the lightbox. It works for me in Firefox.
Hi Richards! Nice video. I still have a question about stocks. What are the options about that? Because there is a problem with stock check if the parent has 0, it doesn't display it, even if child have quatity. And if you put a stock for the parent and the child has 0, the user will be able to buy the parent product, what should not be done. Please help me :)
@mebossy If you have child products, your customers can NEVER buy the parent product, there's no add to cart button for the parent. Try this: Enter "1" into the "available stock" field in the parent product in order to prevent the popup of "ask for price" in certain cases. Since the parent can't be purchased, it will always stay 1. Next add your inventory numbers for each child product. Test it and let me know how it works.
@SparksArtsDesign Hello, and thanks for the video. About your comment, what if we have the option "show products that are out of stock" set to NO, and all the child products have 0 stock but obviously the parent has 1, what happens then? Can't we make it so that the parent product automatically vanishes when all the child products' stock are 0?
@sexopolisathens I don't think that will work. Parent items aren't actually products, so any stock setting on a parent will be ignored. The only way to know for sure is try it.
Richard - Thanks for the tutorial, loved it! I have a question I have images for each Child. I want those Child images to show up on the Parent page. Is this possible, if so can you please explain in detail, thank you:) ytnaynay66
@ytnaynay66 Just off the top of my head (without testing it), I'd say to upload a general image to the parent item. Then add to the parent additional images of all the child items. The additional images will show up below the main image (depending on your Virtuemart template). To add additional images to the parent, in the Product List find the parent item. Click on the icon in the Media column. You can add multiple additional items from there. Let me know if that works! Good luck.
Nice video. What software did you use for creating it? I tried using CamStudio, but had some dropped audio, and couldn't do the cool zooming you did in your video.
@DickerSchutz - In this case I think Simple Attributes might be a better solution than parent/child products, as long as you don't need inventory control for your sub-products. Simple Attributes is set up in the Product Status tab | Attribute List section of the main product. The Virtuemart User Manual explains how that works - page 54 in section 4.6.4.2. Let me know if this works for you.
hi what if you have something like this: yello bag 4 dollar |- orange product1 2dollar |- orange product2 2dollar blue bag 5dollar |- red prodct1 3dollar |- red product2 3dollar how do to do, when you choice yello bag + orange product one = 4 +2 = 6dollar (you never can pik the red product when you wanna have yello bag) gr.
To make the VirtueMart store the home page of your website, just create a link to it in your main menu and move that link to the first position. You'll see a yellow star next to that link, meaning it is your home page. There are several places to set number of products per row. 1) Components > VIrtueMart > Configuration > Site > and under Layout you'll find "Default number of products in a row". You can also override this setting on a Category by Category basis. Does this help?

Good idea! On this video for Parent/Child Products, I was using VirtueMart 1.1.5 and Joomla 1.5.22.

Thanks, enjoyed that. Could you mention the version of Joomla and VirtueMart in future videos.?
