  • @umerrick and @javelin954 agreed. im in training myself, but more importantly we're all brothers and sisters, no matter the rank or province

  • Just using this as a training video myself so don't get me wrong when I say shouldn't they have been using either a Right hand search or Left hand search?

  • This is to help the explores first you need to sound the stairs so that you dont fall through second dont search right behind one another all you are doing is searching the same spot the man infront searched. You can spread out as long as you can hear your partner you can find him. The last think would be the speed. The whole point of search operations is to remove people from the hazardous area remeber they dont have SCBA like we do they only have minutes to live in the toxic gases from the fir

  • @p999ffb comeon give them a break there explorers im an explorer in newyork and it was tough getting usto it your first time

  • Poorly done...no commuacation...forgot to say fire dept any one in here...no team work...i agree with p999ffb

  • i think firefighters could use what the troops got at the end of iraq which tells you where people are in the building, it measures body heat but im sure you could differ the differences.

  • @kbk1061 thermal imaging camera.we use them

  • they have new thermal imaging scanners, pin point on a grid which room there in, make S&R a breeze on an open flame.

  • @kbk1061 very cool ill have to look that up

  • He/She idk is too slow!!

  • A hundred bucks says most of you critics on here are rookies or wannabees and have only done a search and rescue in training. So you are the ones that suck.

  • You suck man but god bless who ever ur trying to save asshole

  • This is the slowest search i have ever seen if your looking for a downed firemen you go as fast as you can me and one other guy searched 3 floors in 3 mintues in a vent enter search evolution

  • @mfd1781

No disrespect but i highly doubt the fact. Just to reach the top of a flight of stairs in a smokey room with two FF could take 30 sec to a min alone

  • Spoken like a true 220... 2 Month as a Firefighter, 20 Years Experience. You are a moron and don't have a grasp on simple english. Either that or you are watching a different video, no one in this video is scaling anything...

  • HAHA IS THAT WHAT YOU YANKS CALL IT!!!!!

I am telling you that is not as difficult as this firefighter is making it look, like the instructor is pointing out, anyone trapped inside would be dead by the time that FF gets up those stair cases, BA shuffling is a quick search and rescue activity, this guy makes it look as if he is climbing Everest!!

  • I agree that this speed and tactic would not work in a real life incident, but what I do not understand is why some people can't grasp that these are high school kids doing this stuff for the very first time. I don't know where you are from, but up here we like to support people who are willing to give up their time to train and learn, not belittle them.

  • So as long as his tactics suck, but he thinks hes giving it 100% then its fine? That's stupid. Searches are suppose to be rapid and clear. Anyone stuck in a fire with hot gases filling up there lungs would of been long dead by the time they climbed those stairs

  • Its called a Breathing apparatus. wow get an education before you become an Armchair Expert !

  • @P999FFB dude ur a jerk so u shouldnt have said anything mean about these guys u were way out of line being a jerk not being encouraging so u should just have left it alone a bit ur tongue u jerk

  • wow they have got nice gear for explorers.

  • Great Job guys Great way to start out in the fire Service.Keep up the great work. New Jersey Fire and Rescue..

     9-11-01 We will never forget

  • im going to junior academy right now and we do all this shit but we know what we're doing

  • academy..Thats the diffrence.

This is 'the sticks' maine. We arnt paid to go/we dont pay to go. this its local mutual aid towns that put together a school for new volunteer fire fighters to reach a leval where they can fight interior structural fire fighting. Like JKMills said before, this is Day one, Rookie school, in rural maine. this maybe the first time they move in full gear, blinded.

  • wouldn't it be more effective for the lead to have the head of the pick head axe in his hand and use the handle to reach and search in front of himself? and was their vision impaired in this video?

  • and he's an explorer

  • Yes they were blinded and were doing everything by touch during this scenario. And as I have said there are tons of ways these guys could have done this better and that is the whole point of the experience. They go in and try, come back out and assess what went good, bad and what they need to work on.

  • ya i did this yesterday in our dept and it was my first time and yes i was blindfolded. i did not go through it quickly either because there are many different things that you need to look for while doing a search like this and also you do not want to lose your partner holding your foot.

  • Hi there, I am a UK firefighter, when we do S&R we stand and keep back of a hand on the wall. I know this is first day training, but do you always search in this manner? Interested to know, great video by the way. :)

  • The way this training is they are supposed to have one person in contact with the wall and each other person in contact with them forming a chain.

  • The rule is, if you cant see your feet, your on your knees. You keep one hand or foot in contact with the wall. and the other leg is spread out to the side. and the guy behind you will have his hand on your left ankle. spread out left more so. so you cover more ground. you will have a tool in your free hand and you will swing it side to side to search for a body and test the floor

  • i thought u were suposed to have ur hand on the wall

  • Right hand Wall, left hand tool ! GOT IT ! NO BECAUSE YOUR DEAD! LISTENING AND APPREHENDING WORDS ARE NOT YOUR STRONG SUIT!

  • As a New Zealand fire fighter we do the same training...the major difference is we would take in protection..ie a charged hose...for protection and makes it easier to exit the building with patient by following the hose out..

  • If this was an actual search, we would most likely have the firefighters with a hose for those same reasons you mentioned.

Later in this class there is a training on using the hose and couplings to find your way out blind.

  • i take this in like a couple months

  • this juy is blacked out

  • FF/EMT-I with the CMFPD Res70 thank you for this video. I taught a RIT class last week same thing what you guys did basic S&R. I had FNGs and they didn't know what was going on!That was the point is to train for that vary thing so they will know what to do. Next time they will be much faster they have trained for it more and more its called training! I look at this and I see me when I was a FNG.Check us out Search CMFPD on youtube tell us what you think.

  • For my frieschool we did search and rescue today and it was something liek this but we had fake smoke. it was very fun but than i got confused because people kept on going off and werent speakcing loud. We need to pratice on our communitcation they said which i really agree on.

  • I have removed all comments and will continue to do so if everyone thinks they have to critcize how the training was setup. This is a day one, rookie school in rural Maine. Your department may be doing something different, but that doesn't make you right. Stop assuming you know exactly what is going on, this is just a video folks.
