The Gold Standard is one thing I disagree with Ron Paul on. In theory it's a good idea, but in practice, well, our national debt alone would eat up well over the majority of all of the gold that the Earth ever had (it and all other heavy elements comes from supernovæ, and we can't just order up more of those any time we start running low on gold).
Listen to the latest interview on the Ron Paul website, he mentions the pharmaceutical companies and HMO's, allbeit briefly. Ron really needs to take some time to explain the problems with the health care industry which are limiting competition, as this such an improtant issue for most people (excepting perhaps those who work for government!!)
The free market, ie competition, if allowed to fuction properly, should be driving DOWN the price of medical care, just like it does elsewhere, where it is fuctioning properly. There is no competitiion in this industry right now. This, I believe is what Ron Paul supports
So, I decided to maintain a major medical policy while paying into a MSA where I can decide how to spend my money in the most cost effective manner. Think how limited your treatment options will be with a fully socialized government plan.
For example a couple of years ago I had a severe neck injury and after dismal failure of the HMO to "fix" my injury (drugs, rehab, cortisol spinal tap, possible surgery), I paid out of pocket for a simple accupunture treatment which cured my condition almost immediately after the first treatment.
I recently opt'ed out of my employer's(GM)HMO plan because of the poor quality of care IMO. The only options for treatment that are available are what the HMO allows, participating doctors, etc. I prefer to make my own treatment decisions.
While I am not against some basic level of government health care- say for severe injuries, accidents - think broken bones, burns etc. this is actually already in place. The hospital emergency rooms are not allowed to turn anyone away regardless of their ability to pay.
How can you be sure that a less regulated free market will serve America better than the government in the many social services that the government now provides? What about the sometimes horrible social conditions that existed when we had a more laisseze-faire system? The example of the Robber Barons and the kind of things described in "The Jungle" don't seem too attractive.
If a highly educated labor force is needed for American business to be competitive, and we are currently missing the that mark (see Microsoft building in Canada, outsourcing, increase in H1-B visas, etc), and you propose to do away with Federal Student loans, then how do we develop that labor force? Will you also do away with federal loans and rants to public universities and if so how does that help us develop a labor force that has the higher education that the market here demands?
Mr. Paul, I believe capitalism, as it stands, is unethical and uncontrollable. Even more so, I believe Corporations, most of them anyway, are psychotic (refer to the documentary THE CORPORATION). So, why do you propose handing over our health care system to such brutes? Thank you!
I believe that you have decribed the problem with our health care system pretty well in that it is run by large corporations (HMS's etc) that are in bed with the corporations and the government. This is what Ron Paul calls "corporatism". In fact the Rebubli-crats want to completely turn over the health care in this country to such entities. This is what they mean by "national health care".
The pharmaceutical companies, HMOs are major lobbyist's in washingtonDC. Why? To protect their monopolist practices and profit margins at the expense of the little people. Why are prescription drugs so much cheaper in other coutries (including Canada, which is right next door? Yet our government will not allow importation. This is freedom??
I am a medical transcriptionist. My question is: As a medical doctor, what do you think about this growing trend in the profession of outsourcing AMERICAN medical information for typing/editing to Malasia, India, and who knows where? The general public is not aware that when their provider dictates notes on their visits, they well could be shipped overseas where there is NO...NO...law to protect our medical privacy. HIPAA laws do not apply overseas.
google "opec, saudi arabia, dollar, euro" to find out. also, google "pnac letter to clinton" you may or may not be surprised to find out it has NOTHING to do with terrorism, 9/11, spreading democracy, or any of that. it's to establish puppet governments in the middle east, and protect the value of the US dollar against the euro.
For all you Ron Paul supporters. Please spread the word about Dr.Paul. I find it best not to impose my personal views about Dr.Paul upon others. I find it more effective to provide information to my friends and neighbors about ronpaul2008dotcom and allow them to digest the simple yet powerful message and decide for themselves!
I would just like to expand or ad to TheAmazingAtheist's question. If you make a claim about history, and that claim can easilly be refuted by anyone who simply bothers to check, does that not make you a blatant liar? And, if you are willing to lie about history, what then do we know that you will not lie about? Lying about your PERSONNAL life, I understand. If you want to (bleep) an intern go ahead. But how can we trust someone who lies about something important like History?
Scratch that question, don't ask him that question. Ask him THIS question;
You've said that you wish to abolish the IRS and reduce the need for it by redicing covernment spending.
No more taxes, sounds nice, less spending on millitary, no spending on war, great. I'm tempted to go to America and get citizenshiop just so I can vote to get Australia out of America's war.
However, don't you need taxes to pay for hospitols and schools and stuff?
It's not taxes in general that are wrong, it's socialism and federal income tax. Things like schools are paid for with property taxes by those who live in that community. Roads are build with gas tax, tolls, and money you pay for plates and stickers etc...prior to 1913, there was no federal income tax, it is not needed unless we are now communist.
Why do you think the government used the propaganda that FREEDOM AND DEMOCRACY ARE UNDER ATTACK after 9/11 diverting any questioning of that vital nexus of geopolitics, religious fronts, and oil dependence as
inspiring Revenge from such Intervention over the years?
So if the Federal government can't regulate drugs, does that mean no FDA? Because having a body that holds pharmaceutical companies accountable and ensures their drugs are safe seems important to me.
But they don't hold them accountable. Watch John Hoxsey: When It Becomes A Crime To Cure. blockbuster(dot)com and netflix have it. The FDA doesn't care about you and me. Alot of the pharmaceutical companies line pockets to get their drugs approved. The FDA and pharmaceutical companies knew Vioxx would kill people ( that was its main side effect)and the FDA still aloud it. The FDA was created by the AMA to stop natural cures. And the government got involved as well.
The FDA gives the public a false sense of security that the drugs they take are "safe" Wouldn't it be better to have your doctor do his own research into safety, efficacy, etc. before perscribing this drug to you if it is new drug or if there is any question?
This is what I do. For example, I do not take statin drugs (used for correcting cholesterol levels) because I have found that there are better ways to pevent heart disease through diet and nutritional supplements and it's so much less expensive.
This is what I do. For example, I do not take statin drugs (used for correcting cholesterol levels) because I have found that there are better ways to pevent heart disease through diet and nutritional supplements and it's so much less expensive.
What does Ron Paul think about the War on Drugs? Everyone seems to be ignoring this issue and I think it should be a bigger part of the 2008 presidential campaign.
He believes that the Federal Government has no Constitutional Power to regulate drugs...The Constitution Party and the Libertarian Party both believe that...Nixon's Federal War on Drugs is illegal
I don't think it makes sense that pro or anti drug legislation is applied at the state level. This is not like having a small difference. while you do something (e.g. using cocain) in one state is ok, does it make sense to be jailed for years in another? Unless the difference in between states are rather small (e.g. smoking in doors is allowed vs. not allowed ), Fedaral legislation IMO is needed.
Well, it is the same thing with weapons. In New York City it is illegal to even have fireworks displayed in public because it can be used "as a weapon". When in New Hampshire, you can openly carry a firearm in public with no permit needed. if you respond to this, do it on my page because there is a lot of comments on here...thank you
Firstly you can display all you want in NY with a permit having $5000 insurance. Secondly, the law falls makes it fall under "Other offenses relating to public safety" rathen than being classified as a weapon. Thirdly even if all so, again example has no relevance; "fireworks use in multi million large city/remote location vs. drug use?". Using fireworks is not "illegal". As another exaple, how could you possibly control state borders if one to claim as illegal and other does not?
No doubt they are editing the thing to pieces in a back room as per the wimp-ass politics as usual agreement... just another coward with no intellectual integrity.
My only question for Rep. Paul (and I know that the period for questions is over now) is: Have you ever read the book, "Pattern for Revolt," by Leonard Read?
For anyone out there who doesn't get the reference, you can find the whole book and descriptions of it from a simple Google search. FEE or the Foundation for Economic Education has the PDF.
I'm afraid that you are going to be tarred with unfairly with the racist brush by those who oppose you unless you make a particular effort to publicly distance yourself from those notorious news letter comments. I know you view racism as collective stupidity and have disavowed the comments, but they are still being used to discredit you. I think it is imperative that you confront this issue very publicly so it isn't hanging out there like the sword of Damocles.
you replied to my comment, and didn't even spell "you" right. Fuck you, you unenlightened pathetic, faggot ass waste of my time. You better hop i don't find out your area code.
How is Guiliani a Conservative? He is Pro-War, Pro-Immigration, Pro-Abortion, Pro-Welfare, Pro-Public Housing, Pro-Campaign Reform, Pro-Hate Crime Legislation, Anti-Gun, Pro-Tax, and everything else. If you respond to this and my other response...post it on my page. It takes a while to look for comments on here.
Why do you insist that the US went to war with Iraq because of a UN resolution when, in fact, it is common knowledge that the UN opposed the US every step of the way and Kofi Annan declared our actions illegal?
How would you deal with the Israeli-Palestinian situation?
Are you willing to concede that the founders weren't always right, and that sometimes changes in the constituiont are good things? (ie slavery) Are you willing to contemplate an Amendment removing the electoral college?
It's been argued, by Milton Friedman among others, that the disconnect between customer and payer in the health care system is in part responsible for a lack of competition in insurance and high costs. This has been encouraged by the tax deduction for employer-provided health care. Of course the ultimate goal is no income tax at all, but which first step would you take to encourage competition: extending the deduction to all medical care/insurance, or getting rid of the deduction completely?
What is your position on the role of the US EPA in protecting national environmental resources? The US EPA sets standards to promote public health by protecting air, water, and land resources. Would you advocate a shift in environmental regulation to the state level?
What is your position on the role of the US EPA in protecting national environmental resources? The US EPA sets standards to promote public health by protecting air, water, and land resources. Would you advocate a shift in environmental to regulation at the state level?
How can you trust a guy with two first names and no last name? Come on, he is a politician and he will tell you anything you want to hear, except his last name.
Dr. Paul, I support Amost all of your platforms. I disagree with your stances on the environment and health care. My question is , What mechanisms do you see limiting pollution and promoting
sound ecological behavior in the "Free Market"? If a corporation's purpose is to maximize profit, and reducing its pollution and ecological footprint means less profit, what forces or motivation will be in place for them to come to a compromise between profit and pollution?
and would you be able to explain this to people two generations from now, who can't drink their water or grow food on their land, because we needed to feed our economic system with sustained growth just to keep it together
I may be wrong but I believe most of your environmental issues fall under property rights in Dr. Paul's book. People and business alike should be allowed to utilize their property to the fullest as long as it does not interfere with your property. So most water and air pollution can be addressed.
the idea of land stewartship has all but vaporized from the US Today. It use to be people took care of their land because their children were going to inherit it and
have to live off of it. Corporations have no social consciousness, they see only profit, and behave only thru penalty (capital or criminal) .
Local governments will quickly turn a blind eye for a few dollars profit and a few more local jobs. Without giving the land some inalienable rights (its been here longer than we have) , who will look after it after the Federal regulations are gone?
Dr. Paul, what is your view on the increase of minimum wage? I know that typically the republican stand is against it, but then again you're not a typical republican. If you are against it please defend your reason.
For decades politicians have bought votes with printed money and debt. Historically, when someone injects a little fiscal sanity into this situation, there's pain involved as reality is revealed. Also, historically, the person injecting the sanity gets the blame for the pain. I'm concerned that you have a real shot at fixing this disaster -- and for decades, free market economic policies will be blamed for the pain. Do you have a plan for explaining all this to a nation of economic illiterates?
Mr. Paul, what are your views on universal health care? I know of your initiative to limit the size of government, but does something so desperately needed by millions of Americans warrant an exception? Also, in your plan to eliminate social security and most of the entitlement programs, what happens to all the money I've been paying into social security?
Dr. Paul, how would you deal with monopolies in healthcare? Specifically, physicians have misused their influence to drive out competetion from midwives. 27 countries in the world have better maternal and infant outcomes than the United States, and in those countries midwives attend normal births, and obstetricians deal with complications. How would you prevent special interests from interfering with the free market, thus limiting consumer choice?
Dr. Paul, when I became a citizen I took an oath "that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same." The President, V.P., Cabinet members, and all other civil & military officers and federal employees take similar oaths. It seems like our education system and media never stress the importance of the oath. Is that why some subvert the oath with other interest?
Dr. Paul, do you feel your experience dealing with some 4,000 pregnant women gives you a level of diplomatic expertise that many of the other candidates will never have, nor be able to develop, as you have?
Doctor Paul - We love you here in Michigan - and are supporting you 100%. This was a question thought that I was dying to know, since we have had 5 out of our 6 babies at home, and don't agree with much of the intervention taking place in hospitals today. What was your C-section rate as a doctor?
Oh, I love you, love you, love you for asking this! I want to know too. I love Dr. Paul, and his policies, and we're supporting him and working with the campaign, but I'm really having to hold my nose to vote for "an obstetrician". I want to know, as consistency, since Dr. Paul says he trusts the free market, does he also trust birth? And did his intervention rate support this?
Traci in Oklahoma (planning a homebirth VBAC next month with a midwife!!)
Look at William Taft, Robert Taft, Pat Buchanan, Howard Phillips, Chuck Baldwin, Mike Peroutka, Barry Goldwater, and Ronald Reagan. Neocons are LBJ Liberals.
Congressman Paul, Where do you stand on Farming Subsidies? Would there be a positive effect that their end have on the economy, food supply, and enviroment?
My questions for Congressman Paul: Do you think there should be a new law that states that whenever the US invades another country, tht the children of the President and all officials of Executive Branch and all members of congress be immediately drafted and after training be sent to the front? No desk jobs.
My question for Congressman Paul is "Would you support the 'Read the Bills Act' or pursue other avenues to reign in the massive pork-barrel spending bills that no one is held accountable for?"
The size of govt today is so huge, most Americans rely on govt to some extent. What departments would you cut from? and what are the realistic replacements for these departments? [/b]
Question for Ron: Would you support the repeal of at least part of the National Firearms Act and the elimination of at least part of the enforcement arm of the ATF? Do you support the right of people to use suppressors to protect their hearing from muzzle blast noise?
I have a very important question especially for a lot of people in South Carolina. What is your stance on religion and how will it effect your decision making when you make it to the white house?
remember this quote by one of our founding fathers.........It is impossible to rightly govern a nation without God and The Bible -George Washington
Will Ron Paul ever offer real examples of what would happen if he were President and at the mercy of Congress? We know what he would like to do as President, now I'm wondering what he CAN do as President.
If I could ask Ron Paul only one question, it would be: Since the value added by government to the state of nature is the existence of property rights beyond subsistence (subsistence property being homestead and tools which we possess through self-defense in the state of nature), why is it that I've never seen any of the Austrian School economists suggest that the primary source of government revenue should be a use fee for assets beyond subsistence assets?
He's been on Alex Jones' radio program saying he believes the gov't isn't telling us everything and that he supports an independent investigation of the events surrounding 9/11.

Thank you!
mixedraice 4 years ago
I believe that you have decribed the problem with our health care system pretty well in that it is run by large corporations (HMS's etc) that are in bed with the corporations and the government. This is what Ron Paul calls "corporatism". In fact the Rebubli-crats want to completely turn over the health care in this country to such entities. This is what they mean by "national health care".
skicentral 4 years ago
Then why did I see him talk about changing the healthcare system from a gov't institution to a corp. one? Did I misunderstand him?
mixedraice 4 years ago
Paul supports a transition away from government involvement in health care in order to drive costs down for patients.

But how can we trust someone who lies about something important like History?
dechha1981 4 years ago
Scratch that question, don't ask him that question. Ask him THIS question;
You've said that you wish to abolish the IRS and reduce the need for it by redicing covernment spending.
No more taxes, sounds nice, less spending on millitary, no spending on war, great. I'm tempted to go to America and get citizenshiop just so I can vote to get Australia out of America's war.
However, don't you need taxes to pay for hospitols and schools and stuff?
dechha1981 4 years ago
It's not taxes in general that are wrong, it's socialism and federal income tax. Things like schools are paid for with property taxes by those who live in that community. Roads are build with gas tax, tolls, and money you pay for plates and stickers etc...prior to 1913, there was no federal income tax, it is not needed unless we are now communist.

So if the Federal government can't regulate drugs, does that mean no FDA? Because having a body that holds pharmaceutical companies accountable and ensures their drugs are safe seems important to me.
And where the heck is the response?
Sociotard 4 years ago
But they don't hold them accountable. Watch John Hoxsey: When It Becomes A Crime To Cure. blockbuster(dot)com and netflix have it. The FDA doesn't care about you and me. Alot of the pharmaceutical companies line pockets to get their drugs approved. The FDA and pharmaceutical companies knew Vioxx would kill people ( that was its main side effect)and the FDA still aloud it. The FDA was created by the AMA to stop natural cures. And the government got involved as well.
PheonixHeart1974 4 years ago
said it for me. The FDA works for big pharma, not for the American people.
redliterocket4 4 years ago
The FDA gives the public a false sense of security that the drugs they take are "safe" Wouldn't it be better to have your doctor do his own research into safety, efficacy, etc. before perscribing this drug to you if it is new drug or if there is any question?

What does Ron Paul think about the War on Drugs? Everyone seems to be ignoring this issue and I think it should be a bigger part of the 2008 presidential campaign.
NthErik33 4 years ago
He believes that the Federal Government has no Constitutional Power to regulate drugs...The Constitution Party and the Libertarian Party both believe that...Nixon's Federal War on Drugs is illegal
ProudAmerican8 4 years ago
I don't think it makes sense that pro or anti drug legislation is applied at the state level. This is not like having a small difference. while you do something (e.g. using cocain) in one state is ok, does it make sense to be jailed for years in another? Unless the difference in between states are rather small (e.g. smoking in doors is allowed vs. not allowed ), Fedaral legislation IMO is needed.

Well, it is the same thing with weapons. In New York City it is illegal to even have fireworks displayed in public because it can be used "as a weapon". When in New Hampshire, you can openly carry a firearm in public with no permit needed. if you respond to this, do it on my page because there is a lot of comments on here...thank you
ProudAmerican8 4 years ago
Firstly you can display all you want in NY with a permit having $5000 insurance. Secondly, the law falls makes it fall under "Other offenses relating to public safety" rathen than being classified as a weapon. Thirdly even if all so, again example has no relevance; "fireworks use in multi million large city/remote location vs. drug use?". Using fireworks is not "illegal". As another exaple, how could you possibly control state borders if one to claim as illegal and other does not?

It's been argued, by Milton Friedman among others, that the disconnect between customer and payer in the health care system is in part responsible for a lack of competition in insurance and high costs. This has been encouraged by the tax deduction for employer-provided health care. Of course the ultimate goal is no income tax at all, but which first step would you take to encourage competition: extending the deduction to all medical care/insurance, or getting rid of the deduction completely?

Dr. Paul, I support Amost all of your platforms. I disagree with your stances on the environment and health care. My question is , What mechanisms do you see limiting pollution and promoting
sound ecological behavior in the "Free Market"? If a corporation's purpose is to maximize profit, and reducing its pollution and ecological footprint means less profit, what forces or motivation will be in place for them to come to a compromise between profit and pollution?
shmuu102 4 years ago
and would you be able to explain this to people two generations from now, who can't drink their water or grow food on their land, because we needed to feed our economic system with sustained growth just to keep it together

Jmartin2683 4 years ago
