in pa the msf course is free to take in a way you could say it cost 10$ because you have to get a learners permit before you take it but completion of the course you get a stamped permit so you don't have to take a test at a licensing center

Thats where I spent my first week. On the same bike too.
After awhile you learn that you don't even need to put your foot out until the bike is at a complete stop, and you may like to practice just putting the shifter leg down and leave the other leg on the peg and just stay on the one foot and start moving off of one foot. It took me awhile to practice but now I only put one foot down at stop lights. Still riding the 500R
Thanks for the help. I appreciate it. It was just an all around bad day. My stops have never been that bad. Don't know what the problem was that day.
I am taking the MSF April 24. Pretty lucky in Ohio since it's only $25 here. I have heard in other states that it can get up to around $300. Ohio is the least expensive I have heard of.
Good clutch starting, although learning where the friction zone is for the low speed turning is very important. It's also good that you're looking where you want to turn. Your stops are a bit rough though, but the 500 has a very powerful front brake, doesn't need much pressure to stop.
Take the MSF course ASAP! The $200 entry fee is worth it :)
The 500 is an awesome bike. I have had one for about six years now, and a had a 454Ltd before that (basically the same bike, but in cruiser geometry).
Be careful with fast stops. Both the 500 and 454 are prone to rear wheel swerve; much worse than the Honda Nightwing I rode at the MSF.
