Yes, I agree the 80/20 is an excellent idea but having used variable angle bounce cards, whether an index card attached with a rubber band or the Joe Demb 'Flip It' I use today. A 90º angle will throw light forward because it is being blasted by photons at really close range and is facing the subject. It works, as does your 80/20 concept and if it didn't, all owners of Demb 'Flip Its' could return them as not being fit for purpose. And sorry, you're not that old Mr. Lumiquest.
Well firefly, I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. while a very small percentage of light will bounce forward, it is rather inefficient and the issues discussed in our video still apply. This is further illustrated in our video "Bounce Flash Photography". BTW, thanks for the "lovely"...not so much for the old" :-). Quest
@onboardv These videos are good for learning about light. I've made a comment because I'm a photographer and I know quite a lot about light myself. Lumiquest's films are good but to suggest that a 90º bounce card would not work efficiently is arguable but not right and products like the Joe Demb 'Flip It' work by using this principle. I think Lumiquest's products are very good and have used them myself. You don't need to respond, i'mboredv.
If you have a bounce card or reflector at 90º in order to bounce light off the ceiling, the light hitting the card will still go forward. He's a lovely old bearded man but he is selling LumiQuest and he is wrong. You can test this by using the small pull-out plastic card that's installed on many flashes or stick a piece of white card to the back of your flash. It Works!
Cool, didnt even think of that whole angle the reflector affecting the forward bounce as well. keeping it at 45 degree angle sounds like the choice that would give consistant results. i'm looking for a good modifier for shooting outdoor portraits and i'm keeping the quik bounce in mind while i research.
