No one whated new drivers 25 years ago, you have to play the game, even tho you have a class one in your back pocket.
Start out on 7.5t and 17t time flys trust me. got 20 years on class one now. 1st 5 years was on the lower classes. And i glad i did it that way as well you lear a lot. walk 1st :)
money making business... I've failed 4 times, each with the same examiner (whom i know) it sucks BIG TIME!! kissing the kerb and i mean kissing. 4 minor faults.. is it coz i iz a woman?? lol
Ya I done my medical test . Waiting to receive professional licence. But I m worried about job after passing .. I do need experience at least 2 yrs.. How can I do experience to get job..? It quite expensive to pass test.. Any solution pls if any1 know.......
passed my class1 on 10.08.11 and on the same day my work sent me out on a little run. it was hard. :( but i'll get there. passed my class2 on 5.8.10 and after a year all my dreams came true. to be honest got really lucky. after passing my class2 after a month i got a full time job and im driving an artic for the same company now. so happy. good luck to you guys
Back in 2006 I did a 5 day HGV 2 training course, passed my test!! :-) did a one day HI-AB training course and got a licence and certificate for that!! :-) and recently got a digital tachograph card aswell. can i get a HGV job? 5 years on and still no luck. Everywhere i ask im told i need to have atleast 2 years HGV driving experience! :-/ and that its not what i know its who i know etc :-/
And also about the braking exercise, i done one in the test centre for my Cat C back in October 2010, but when i did my class 1 in January 2011 i never did a braking exercise at all, it was just a normal pull up on the side of the road.
@pollouk The trucking industry used to pay well. When big companies started to lower the wages other companies started to join in. Some drivers are still on £10 + an hour but right now the trucking industry is not the best to be in for money at the moment.
@swellbelly1 Yes but for many people it's not just about the money it's about living the dream, being on the open road for a living and enjoying it!! I'd rather be in a truck for £7 an hour than in a bloody factory or office for about the same anyday!!
And "MrDontstareitsrude" Go for it, i did, done my Cat C and C+E and am well pleased i did, it was always my dream and im glad i followed it, best feeling in the world when you hear those magic words "i'm pleased to tell you that you Passed" :)
Thanks for these VERY HELPFUL videos. I'm hoping to finally get my medical done on Tuesday (8th Feb '11), and swatting up for theory with DSA CD-Roms which I totally recommend. I'm surprised the practical course only seems to last a week or 2. Is it 5 days a week or something. Doesn't seem like enough to learn everything...
@rjbetty84 I've both LGV and PCV Class one licences. When I left the forces it was very difficult to get lorry work. It's easier to get a job as a bus driver, get experience of driving large vehicles then move on to the haulage industry. Some posters have mentioned the cost of training which is expensive. Some bus companies in the UK (FirstBus), will sponsor your training.
having been laid off work twice in the last year painting and decorating ive decided enoughs enough and going to have a go at getting my lgv c rigid liscence, must admit tho that im packing my pants thinking about doing another test. been learning my theory all week while i wait for provisional lgv come in post.hope i pass becuse aint cheap.
Hi, I'm thinking of doing it but not sure about getting job as new driver. I talked to couple of driving schools here in coventry and they charge about £2300 to £2500 for 5 day training...for both c and c+e....any advice on price and getting job welcomed..thanks.
i have just booked my medical and assessment drive got the books and disks hope it all goes well, does anyone know a good training center in or near manchester
Hi my name is Jeff Charge, and this video is of my Lgv / Hgv driving school in Thetford Norfolk where we trained Ian and Fred for their group C driving test at the Ipswich Lgv driving test centre. Ian went on to take his group C+E and is now a professional artic driver!
passed my class 1 last week 3 minors, been looking at jobs everyone says atleast 2 years experience even the agencies, might get a job driving class 2 first, then go from there
@b1a2s3i4r5 try agencies, cuz some agencies do take on new drivers you just have to keep trying and never give up. theres always gonna be somebody whos going to employ you.try Knights of Old they are looking for young drivers, eddie stobart is always looking for drivers.give it a go it could only get better ;)
I've passed my test on the 5th of August 2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and i ve got a job already, starting on the 6th of september!!!!!!!!! 3rd time was lucky for me :) cant wait for class 1.eddie stobart i'll see you later ;)
@stobartteam oh man ur so lucky to have a job,, i passed Class1 and Class2 and also CPC but im finding hard 2 get a job, ill be very greatful if u help me to get a job. thanks and good luck with ur new job.
@b1a2s3i4r5 Passed my cat c 17 july, just got a job at Palmer & Harvey. They have class C+E too. They have good training and wages.Ihave no experience but they are willing to take on starters and seem like a nice firm.Give them a try!Good luck
@selfrazor6 thanks man I,ve sent them my information through their website and hopeing that they came back offering me a job. thanks again and God bless
It is a big step from a 7.5tonner to an 18tonner. I was a bit cocky when I went for my class 2 training because of my experience as a 7.5t driver but soon realised that it was going to be a steep learning curve.
passed my LGV theory today and cpc first time :-) bit worried though because there seems to be a few people on here struggling to get work ?? i live in the midlands so if any 1 knows if its hard to work or not i would aprreciate if u wud let me know
Also remember very very important to also be checkin your mirrors because the examiner looks for that too, if you dont keep using your mirrors and checking your blind spots then you will fail
Hi There. The question section has gone upto 100 and the hazard perception part have also increased. These tests are now in 2 parts ( 1 part per section )
make very sure to keep looking as far ahead as possible and read _all_ signs, you can't just nip in and change lanes quickley at the last minute in a lorry, make sure nothing's rushed. Plus this will help use your test time up :)
gotta take me retest soon, i failed on observation on a roundabout. i only got 5 minors as well!! i was gutted, i just hope i can pass this time, the costs are starting to mount up!!
The good thing about the HGV test is that the reverse and braking exercise are done in the test yard and are pretty easy. Once you get them out the way you should be fairly relaxed for the road part of the test
