What a bass sound. incredible. and great singing too. I think the bass player would make a better fit for the current bassist The Who has now. recently seen a Who show on TV and the bass player was whimpie sounding. maybe they should give this guy a holler.
thanks, you should hear the rig now. I changed it up a little. I now use a samson headphone amplifier to split my signal two ways. One signal feeds into a Digitech 2120 Preamp for the effects, and then into the Sunn Concert Bass. That is sent to my 2 Hartke 410 cabinets. The other signal chain goes directly to the Hartke 3500, running the Hartke 215XL cab for the lows. This way, I can have the low, clean bass at all times, while having a highly distorted/processed sound at the press of a button.
Distortion pedal was on whole song too. I wanna stress though, the sound you hear has a lot with the speaker cabinets and the amount of bottom I can get out of them. Thats the key to the sound. However, If you used a Geddy Jazz bas and a DS-1 through a mixing board, or a preamp, or whatever, you could get a similar sound out of it, and I think you would be pleased with it.
well, honestly, the sound you hear really stems from the amplification on stage. I'm sure if you wanted to get that same sound you could in the studio with just the bass and the pedal if you used some EQing, but the main part of my sound I contribute to the Sunn Concert bass head, it really makes a big difference in the tone. That and honestly, i am playing REALLY loud, and thats the only way to get it to sound just like that.
So you pretty much have a somewhat basic setup. The key to that "geddy sound" is the jazz bass and the distortion pedal, can you use just that? Or what are the other crucial details of the set up you need. (I am not that good on the technical stuff)
I use a Sunn Concert Bass, pre-amp out into a Hartke 3500 head, with the bass countour set to about 3 o clock. The key here is that the tone controls on the sunn, affect the sound of the hartke. The 3500 runs the hartke 215XL cab and the sunn runs the 410XL. I then use the boss DS-1 bass distortion. I also use brand new Rotosound 66LD strings every time I play.I also use a Geddy Lee Signature Jazz bass. Thats it in a nutshell. Thanks for commenting, and show your friends!

Hah, yeah, if only dreams could come true. I do cringe when I hear Pino attempt this solo live.
When will the big stars realize that there are regular people out there as good as the greats that once were?

Thx. Last question, the distortion pedal was applied throughout the whole song? or just the solo?
