@MrPoshmatthewa This recording was first offered to Elvis who turned it down during the period Elvis was to play the role of Danny Fisher in "King Creole". What relationship this song may have to that is problematic.
Conway may not have liked his early crossover songs but I loved them, especially this one. His voice in this recording does not have the richness it had later but this song introduced me to Conway's music and I am grateful for that
The song was originally done by Elvis Presley under the title of "Danny". It was recorded for the movie King Creole, but was cut from the sound track. The screen play was an adaption of the book, "A Stone for Danny Fisher". The script was originally given to James Dean before he died. The rise of Elvis Presley gave the studio a chance to re write the script into a musical-drama. take a moment to listen to Danny by Elvis.
I almost wanted to cry when I heard this song on the movie Limitless. I can just see myself when i hear this song. And to make things click more, the real name of the song and my name are the same.
Thanks for this high-quality version of a great recording. Met Conway in '74, when I emceed his & Loretta Lynn's show in Sacramento, CA. Super talent... super guy. My first LP purchase was his first album, "Conway Twitty Sings." Followed his career into country. Still think "Hello Darlin'" is one of the all-time greats.
Had the privilege of meeting Conway when I emceed a Conway Twitty - Loretta Lynn show in Sacramento, CA. (1974) What a super talent... both in rock and roll and in country. In fact, the very first LP I ever purchased was his first album, "Conway Twitty Sings." Thanks for this high-quality post.
@ngatiwhatuamovies ...... actually, it was a different film .... called "The Special Relationship" ... a HBO film about Tony Blair and Bill Clinton.. but then it ended with a real clip of George Bush Jnr ... and it ended with this song... priceless.... ... btw, this is a great film as is Limitless (except for a weak ending)... see ya
Incredible Song! You can hear Conway sing this song in the new hit movie, "Limitless." It's in one of the early scenes and by the way the movie is really good.
what a lush combination of slap echo and tremolo on the guitar.sounds like a fender telecaster. rock-a-billy is the best period of early rock.I wish conway had enjoyed his rock roots more then he claimed to in later years as a country artist.
voices like Conway Twitty , Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Hank Wiliams, Johnny Contardo, and of course Elvis are one in a life time voices but now who we call music stars are pathetic compared to thoes listed above. Its like people cant tell what good vocals are
Just watched the All American Rejects' video for Move Along. Yeah, that was not my cup of tea. This song, both in style and content, is much more my style.
Absolutely agree. I had the great priviledge of visiting Southern USA Oct/ Nov this year . CT still really big in Nashville and was very near to his birthplace ( also Tammy Wynette's ) when visiting Tupelo MI. Conway a hugely under-rated ( in UK) talent: What a voice range. ATB LW
Hail, Nocaro! Your noble contributions are underscored by the fact that YouTube pulls two out of every three that you post, "because of copyright issues". I wouldn't bother to thank you, were it not for the fact that quality sound and great pictorials compose the signature of all Nocaro presentations. You are getting comments of appreciation because there is not a better presentation of Conway Twitty's classic on this site.
Now, this is great! Elvis recorded this song as "Danny" that was meant for King Creole. But the recording never got it to the record album. Too bad, I like Elvis version a lot. Look it up, it's on several albums and bootlegs.
Conway Twitty was the most credible of the Elvis Presley soundalikes from the 1950s. In fact, the first time I heard "Lonely Blue Boy" and "It's Only Make Believe", I thought I was listening to Elvis. However, Conway was talented in his own right, as he later proved.
Hi Nocaro! I'm starting today with Harold Jenkins, having abandoned and erased Tommy Edwards who disappointed me a lot. Looks like IT'S ALL IN THE GAME was one of his rare good performances. I'm here especially to tell you that Conway has the best version ever of this fabulous song in spite of many versions I know. Strangely enough, in spite of the fact that Elvis has always been my top singer, his version is the worst of all! I think he wasn't aware of the song's beauty and perspectives. Pity!
of all the voices that cold never be duplicated... this is #1 ... conway had more vocal range and flare then any human before him and will ever after.
One of my most favorite songs from Conway Twitty back in my time when I started listening to Old-Time Country Music in the 70s as well seeing him in concert back in '93 before he passed away after my 24th b'day on the 5th of June. May he Rest In Peace, but be in our hearts forever.
Lonely Blue Boy was to have been recorded by Elvis Presley for the movie "King Creole" in 1958 but it was scrapped. Two years later, Conway Twitty recorded the song and made it a hit.
Never really took off on this song back when I was in highschool. Ikinda of like it more now, the stero and headphones help immensly....I take i Conway tells us why it is he's a Lonely Blue Boy...it didn't happen. Many songs have a happier ending & some of breakup & heartache but not this one cause it never happened in the first place. I'm kind of down & out in one way & yet keeping a positive approach at hand, I''m that Funny Little Clown, Bobby Golsboro sings about. Thx4 postin'
I love this song. It's up there with most Elvis songs. But I'm not buying Conway's admission that rock and roll wasn't his thing. If he had enjoyed more success, he would not have expressed that sentiment.
One of my all time favorite songs by Conway Twitty. I seen him back in early '93 at Ft. Lauderdale's Flea Market w/my mom & dad & I loved his show, but was also shocked when he passed away the day after my birthday in June. He'll always be my idol other than Elvis Presley & Jim Reeves too. May all three b in our hearts 4-ever.
AWESOME Song by him!! I remember it well. I think it was the first reverb guitar sound that I had ever heard. In stereo it sounds even Better! I think he did "What Am I Livin' For " right around this same time-Hint Hint! Thanks for posting this GEM!!
there must be a connect to this song and Danny by elvis - can anyone expand this theory. They sound the same and have simular lyrics

@nicktesla45 On this song, Twitty does a great job, but in "Danny" ( the real name of this song), Presley goes up one notch, at the end.
