I need advice badly as i have been stung already! A costly mistake.. I have just got the D7000 & need to know a good lens for short mid.... I love portraits & tend to close up on all i take so bokeh must be good ~ also i have looked at hundreds of reviews & no one tells what are the best 2 or 3 lens to carry (so many to choose) now as you point out a GOOD lens i need PLEASE help ~ i am think 50mm 1.4G? And then a small zoom 18 105 kit? ps KIT? Best M
@thatnikonguy and the 7000 have lesss noise in high ISO? today i test a nikon d90 just with the light of the room no flash and it was so noise as a d60 and get those green tones that comes when the light its no good
but here in mexico the nikon d90 new in box (in mexico city its about $850 US dollars) its a good deal us to cost the double
Matt, nice review. But I found that the high ISO test is a bit miss leading. Because in real life shooting, when you are shooting in extreme low light condition such as a poorly lite street or inside of a pub. I found that most apsc/crop sensor does poorly anything above ISO 3200. That is when your photos become really noisy. Just my experience
Hi, I have tight budget and your video was reallly helpful. I have done bit of phtography but this will be my first dslr. if I buy the the d7000 I cannot afford to buy any other lenses, except for the default 18-105 vr. How ever if I buy the the d90 i can afford to spend some money on other lenses. I was hoping you could suggest two lenses for each of the camera's which will cater to most photography need and will give good all round performance.
How in the world do you expect photos to look good at that high ISO? Im a fairly new photographer and even i know that if you want good looking photos in low light you should try get get it looking good using aperture and shutter speed first. Then you adjust the ISO if you really need too. Every camera is going to suck at 25K ISO. If you know what your doing you should rarely have to go above 3200.
To be fair, it should be noted that the reason why the WB is off and inconsistent is because it's probably on "Auto" and you're shooting in a florescent environment.
I don't know many cameras that stay constant on auto with those bulbs, because the wavelengths are so dynamic.
That's evidenced through the greenish color cast that appeared. Has nothing to do with the ISO settings, really.
The hi iso's on the D7K are a gimmick and terribly noisy I would have preffered a lower iso of 50 like the old Ilford pan f for low grain technical use and longer exposures
@kmedina419 in some cases I would rather have noise than motion blur, or miss the picture - so I use the full range of ISO available (including boost)
@thatnikonguy to save the hassle of having to boost the speed id spend the money on a lense so i can have 1.8f so i can have high shutter and would go higher than 3200 with that youll have some fast shutter speeds to over 1/2000 which you wouldnt get motion blur and would capture what you need
@guillermo4754 It is a stunning and irreplacable lens - at least for me. If another lens broke, I would struggle on and consider repairing/replace/other lens options... but if my 24-70 broke, I would buy a new one the same day. I use it over 50% of the time.
I'll definitely go for the classic D90,the D7000 new sensor color reproduction looks weird and the image is not as sharp as the already fantastic D90 mostly because of the pixel boost
hi i have d7000 mounted with 35mm 1.8 and my friend has d90 with the kit lens the image quality of d90 is sharper than mine i dont know whats wrong with my cam i even tried shooting in a same settings...do you think the memory card will change the quality of the photos in future shooting?
@aisa0180 Lots of possiblities. You may have sharpening higher in the d90. Also technique and lens will make a difference. The memory card will NOT affect image quality.
@thatnikonguy thanks. i tried different setting yesterday with my friend and his d5100, and when i check my images in my laptop and yes your right its just the technique...im loving it now.. how about the video do you think getting a good memory card will change the quality of the video? thanks a lot bro cheers
No - the memory card will not improve your video either. The only variables for the cards is how fast they read and write, and how reliable they are. Both are important - so you can record HD video, or big bursts of photos, and know that they are all safe and not going to corrupt. But in terms of image quality - it has absolutely 0% to do with it.
@thatnikonguy haha i would but if i choose to upgrade in the future (which i probably will to a nikon d700 or d800) i don't think the new owner would appreciate that. haha
Thank you so much for doing this video for me and to all viewers and possible buyers for D7000 and 24-70mm. Definitely 24-70mm is a BANG! Also considering that D7000 is a new technology I be still considering to buy it. My current gear is D3000 with 18-5mm been with this gear for about 9 mos already been learning a lot. Here's my work so far, icapturemoments.blogspot.com if you have time to visit and take some critique of my work, would be much appreciated. Thank YOU!
@JustClickPhoto Yep, precisely right. When I give a camera a score out of 10, it is a straight score in terms of quality - not taking into account value for money as other people do. So an entry level will score a lot less than a pro body.

Would you recommend the 24-70mm on a crop body like the D7000?

IS the 24-70 worth the price??

aldrich2015 9 months ago
@aldrich2015 ohhhh, good question. If you don't need the extra build quality of D300s, I'd suggest you get the d7000.

the only reason i would switch my d90 for the d7000 is because of the black shutter button :( I really wish the d90 had a black shutter button =T

@MrIcapturemoments You are welcome. I hope it was some help, sorry the test images were not too inspiriing.
If you have money to spend, I would get the lens first, and then think about if you need the body. What is it you need improved on the D3000?
Thanks for the blog link - will check it out.
