Portugal's 500 year prescene in Angola was not always perfect, but compared to what it became after independence Angola was better off prior too. For instance, prior to 1974 Angola was one of the main food exporters on the African contient, now it is forced to import the vast majority of it's food. It is difficult to argue that Angola is better off now .

The destruction of modern Angola is better attributed to Cold War Imperialism, and not Portugal. In fact, Portugal built up much Angolan infrastructure and developed the economy, but the civil war caused by Soviet, South African, American, and Cuban intervention ruined any chance of Angola emerging prosperous from independence.
