I also hear that different frequencies have been used for what we call notes... for example I consider A to be a certain pitch, but I hear that the what some have considered 'A" is different in different regions and over time.... Maybe you and others use a different "a" than I do? best,Rose
Nice fiddling there! I have been learning a little old time myself, and had a question. I tend to play this tune in standard and have hear other versions as well as your own where I sound totally off tune! Is it the effect of recording equipment, or are you in another tuning?
My cousin sent this video to me because my Grandmammy and Grandaddy were married on the 8th of January. He was a fiddle player and played it to her on his fiddle every anniversary.
You have the style right! This must've been what it was like to sit around the fireplace back in 18__ and hear someone take out the fiddle or the banjo and play the latest tune, or the tune everyone loved!
yup, get back from the neck and you'll find that a lot of that "squawkiness" goes away (it's caused by the bow sliding up and down the strings instead of across them perpendicularly). other'n that I'm quite impressed by your skill on multiple instruments.
As a violin player who has been playing for.. too long, I have to say that you have some work to do. I like the mood of the song but the tone is really lacking. i suggest you play closer to the bridge for a more vibrant tone. And try to make your left wrist straight and relaxed when holding the fiddle for best posture. Relax your bowing arm and let your arm weight do the work.

I really like the scratchiness. Makes me think of some real old-timer playing.
