  • I have a very difficult time with percussive strumming and picking. Which specific part of your hand is hitting to create the percussion?

  • gadamn. straight up. awesome!

two note am missing at the G, and one at the C. daamn

  • cheers bro, helped a lot

  • Thanks!! Check out me playing what you taught me!

Search: Justin Huffman 3 song mix

    THANK YOU!!!

  • hello everyone, this is a tutorial first play slowly then play fast :)

  • Galing ! =)

  • good job

  • awesome job dude but its not really a tutorial. its just a slower version of you playin it....... but awesome job

  • yo how does the second part go? like the sequence on how you strum the bass and claw up?

  • It is easy to see where John keeps the pick while he is playing with his thumb and fingertips on the YouTube clip Waitin' On The World To Change (Acoustic)

  • nice taylor man

  • Any special tuning?

  • @johann1301h The song is in standard tuning. But if it helps the first chord being played is based off of the G formation. It just looks weird because John Mater plays the chordwith his thumb on the root note. . .G on the 6th string.

  • thanks man, much appreciated...

  • cool beanz!

  • nice tutorial. was just checking out other why georgia cover and then saw you. good playing. check out my why georgia cover as well!

    thanks for sharing

  • Wow!

  • Damn that's sick

Thanks for posting, been practicing a bit :)

  • We have the same guitar :D

  • So this can't be played with a pick? Or is it just easier to fingerpick it?

  • you can play it with a pick, but it will sound SO much better fingerstyle...

  • do it even slower and close up and ill subscribe.

  • i believe you mean TRANSCRIBE, there are tons of tabs already out there...

  • the meant subscribe.

    you know, the youtube function.

  • thanks <3 i love it so much. (:

  • awesome work can I have tabs please have u awesome :)?

  • Thx

  • mayer is a big guy, so he has no limits with his hands.

  • well played, but this is not exactly a tutorial.

  • you're really good! i've seen others try to play that song...it's a hard one!

  • I can play it like you, but DEAR GOD. John plays that C chord with his thumb?

His hands must be MASSIVE. Can anyone here play it that way?

  • Don't wanna be arrogant but yeah I can, I'm 1,94 m...

  • im not tall and can do that. just practice :)

  • me too, just practice fellow!

  • wow. you're really good. =)

  • chorus???

  • thanks man, this one is awesome.

  • Hi man! Thanks for this tutorial, nice to hear in this tempo because I can't make this rhytm out of the original! My thumb hurts as well after practising so long hehe!

  • i just started playing and it will be a while for me to play this well. good job!!

  • Hammer on, then switch into a chord, tough move for a guitarist, it's the thing I admire Mayer that much!

  • superb guitar cover

  • I've spent about a month trying to get the "pick switch" down. It's really tough tucking that pick away and pulling it out right when you need it - putting it away again - then switching to it again. I don't see anyone on YouTube demonstrating that.

  • One way you can do it is to strum with your fingernail. That way there's no pick needed. Otherwise, you can stick it somewhere on the guitar. The switch isn't easy at first, but once you find a good transition point, it gets to be more manageable.

  • Actually, Mayer palms the pick. That's what I'm trying to learn to do. Strumming with your fingernails is easy, but not good for performance. Not to mention... it's sort of like admitting your can't do it the right way. But I've gotten pretty good at it so far. I can switch pretty quickly.

  • I didn't realize he palmed it. I thought he stuck it between his index and middle finger. I can do it that way, but it's easier to just stick it in the edge of the battery compartment on the top of my guitar.

  • he sticks in between index and middle finger.

  • how can you do that without it falling out? I have found that you can put it there if you put it at at least the second knuckle and don't separate your fingers that much, but if you move your fingers even a little bit apart, the pick falls out. Where exactly in your fingers fo you put the pick?

  • I don't have my guitar with me this weekend, but I'm pretty sure I stick it at my 2nd knuckle. It just takes practice to get it to stay put while you play.

  • @damaband41 Look at the Waitin' on the World to Change (Acoustic) YouTube clip. It is easy to see where John stashes the pick while he is picking with his thumb and fingertips.

  • @WhisperSessions how is "no pick" admitting you cant do it the right way?

  • you're the best... seriously...

  • Nice! Thanks for spending the time to do this! John's playing in the UK this year I can't wait to go see him-he's not that huge here yet so it's gonna be a really cool intimate venue. Great job once again man!

  • hey mate

can u tell me when is John playing in UK? :)

  • Nice! thanks for spending the time to do this. John's playing in the UK this year I can't wait-he's not that huge here yet so it should be a really intimate venue! Great job once again man!

  • I was JUST thinking, I need to learn that song - and look, you're showing me how! this is great. thanks!!

  • Mayer actually gets his thumb around to hit the root C on the c9 chord. I have no idea how he does it. His hands must be huge. He uses his thumb more than anyone I've ever seen. I can't play most of his stuff because I can't get my thumb to work that way.

  • Yeah, he has massive hands and he uses his thumb for everything. I didn't realize he used it on the C, but I'm gonna try it when I get home! Thanks for the tip! :)

  • Nice, What kind of guitar is that? Looks quite like a Taylor.

  • You're right! It's a 312ce.

  • No wonder I liked the sound of it...

  • Great. I always wanted to play this song. can you tell what chords?

  • They're in the description.

  • i cant get the part after the intro. =(

  • Do you hold the G string down when you come down on the 4-5 for the intro? Nice video.

  • The G string is open on the 2nd chord of the intro. The tabs are in the info on the right. I'm glad you like it!

  • Go Pro

  • you need to show how to play it slowly by showing the cords

  • Do a google search for john mayer tabs and click on the first link.

  • absolutely execelent you should do a cover or something man A++

  • holy crap dude.

    you kick butt.

  • thanks for the post....had to learn this tune for a gig....big help!

  • such a class song

  • thanx a lot, great playing :)

  • good job bro sounds perfect

  • Could you send me the tabs you used? I can't find any good one

  • He put were the tabs are in the description!!!

  • wow thanks. can you show us neon please?

    thanks again

    rt

  • yeah..nice slo-mo on the C-riff dude..closest to the original i've seen by far..peace out

  • Can you send me the tabs? Good job!

  • have you ever heard of "google". I swear to god, "why georgia" tabs are everywhere. it's like you have to be surfing with a blindfold on to not find them. jesus.

  • Not shit in anyone's pie, but the part after the main riff, the one that goes "Just stuck inside the gloom" was a little off.

    Other than that, cool beans.

  • ah so he does that thumb slapping thing

  • Takamines?

  • What kind of guitar are you using? I'm kinda torn between Taylors and Takamines. Martins are outta the question....

  • taylors all the way. they are the shit

  • I play a Taylor 312ce

  • You're so cute

  • AH thanks this helps a LOT!
