I can't imagine what that must feel like for Trey. He gets to hear one of his masterpieces performed by the musicians of a legendary orchestra. Just standing in the middle of all that sound must be an awesome experience.
I've listened to this a few times now, and I cannot help but think that YEM, in this situation, sounds strangely like Copland's Appalachian Spring. Which is awesome for the record.
I always pictured this song as an orchastral piece! It didnt quite hit the nail on the head though. But I still got the chills quite a bit.
Thank you Trey for doin justice and showing that your music doesnt just apply to shitty improvisation and giving us an idea on how big your ideas are.
can you imagine the reaction of the philharmonics members when they were told about this initially? a mix of "who the fuck is trey anastasio?" and "holy fuck im going to be on stage with trey anastasio!"
listen buddy, PHUCK OFF if you can't handle a little applause, if you're playing music at this level nothing should fuck up your playing. this is a brilliant song, composed by a brilliant musician, that makes people wanna get up and dance and cheer. sorry you can't deal with a little phunk
@jgoldsmith31 I've walked a mile in the shoes of a person following Phish (since 94'), so I get where you are coming from. However I ask you to walk a mile in the shoes of a Symphonic Musician, and think about what it can do for the auditory reception of the show. Do you care if the one performance that ever occurs of Trey with the NY Philharmonic, could have been better? More musicians on point? Or would you rather go to that Halloween show, with guest musicians, that sounded, alright.
Just so people know, when you are in a symphony hall, please refain all applause (clapping, laughing, whistling, coughing, sneezing, etc..) until the end of a piece of work. If you do have to cough or sneeze, please conceal it as best as possible. NO TALKING!!!
I say this, as a former symphony member. The audience can be loud and can throw acoustics instruments out of sync.
@Mioquacoonacaw clearly youve never been to a phish concert hahaha. this is one of those instances where it doesnt matter where youre at. the Jedi Master is on stage, therefore anything the crowd does is drowned out by the amazing tones coming from his physical being
@griffinmpable A-hum, my first show was 10.9.94: Pittsburgh. I have seen somewhere around 40 shows, so check your facts before you begin to judge people. My point of view comes from being a concert bassist and understanding the technical and auditory aspects that are required to perform a piece of material to its greatest level. So the next time you listen to the Trey with Scorchio tape, tell me where is the loud crowd? Did they ask people not to make noise during songs? maybe so, maybe not.
@slickjake527 Read my other comments and please shut off your cellphone at the upcoming Trey Symphony shows. PS I was at the Great Went, when the first glow stick war supposedly happened. See you at the hall!

@Manu112345 MANNERS??? You ever been to a Phish show?? That was manners....c'mon man seriously Trey Playing w/ N.Y. Philharmonic?? Yeah you're correct...please be quiet....don't say shit....and hold your clapping until the end....geez
@MikeyRed76 Dude seriously, knock off the judging of something you weren't even at. No one yelled enough to be a distraction, no uptight asspricks like yourself complained because there was nothing to complain about. You say Phish heads should respect the usual stuffy symphony audience by not expressing their pleasure vocally, well I say the usual symphony audience should adapt and expect there to be a few people cheering and applauding loudly at times. Don't like it stay home as you did.
Come on, Phans. You're at Carnegie Hall and it's his sister's memorial. The applause are nice but it ain't Big Cypress so let's keep it appropriate and let the man speak withough shouting over him. I guess I just have to hate like that.
@MikeyRed76 Respond to this video...spoken like two people who weren't there. Everything about the night, including the amount of applause was perfect and respectable. Get off your high horse and stop judginh things you know nothing abou
@NearlyNormalProd There's a difference between Phish and the Philharmonic at Carnegie Hall. There's a different etiquette required of the audience. I hear talking, yelling, and hoots while the music is performed. It seems inappropriate. I just think it's rude to speak and yell during a classical performance. It's not a rock concert. Orchestras hit awesome changes. They've been doing it for hundreds of years. No reason to yell in the middle of a performance. Others are trying to listen.
@MikeyRed76 - Well let me speak for everyone who actually did attend by saying we are all glad you weren't there. Sounds like you would have had a horrible time anyway. You know .. with all the awful 'hooting' going on.
who's that guy dancing next to Trey?
