sounds real good bubba. dang, from a wash tub. hey I use to live in Poplar Bluff ... centuries ago ha! I'd like to see you play it. That would be real neat to see that.
Thanks to all who leave positive comments. Unfortunately some comments get pretty rude so I delete them. Now for an update. Although the "Dobro Bass" looks cool it never had the sound I had looked for so I have dismantled it. When I come up with a better design I will try again ... Probably a two string design. Feel free to email me here for more details on the successes and failures I encountered.
I remember admiring your base on a website some months ago. From the first time I saw it I was inspired. I havent much time but when I find some Id like to build one of my own. It would be good to know I can contact you with have a technical question or two if such a need arises.
What string did you use for the bass? Was it an actual bass string?? I think I see molding as the fret board (back to back) is that right? one more thing.... Where did you find the separate resonator?
The first version, (what you see here) used weed whacker line, but I updated the design by adding a magnetic pickup and steel upright bass "G" string. You are right ... the neck is two pieces of baseboard molding put back to back with a pocket routed into the bass end for the steel bracket to insert. I had the dobro parts, cone, spider and grill from my old Johnson Dobro after I upgraded it to a gold setup. the Dobro kits are found on eBay by a store called "Bezdez".
would have been nice to actually have the dobro playing while watching
