hes saying hes cheating the music industry cause he's a black man making rock n roll

which is contrary to what the music industry is trying to do

read the lyrics in that sense and maybe you will be more receptive to the song

@burningcities : nah, what cody's original lyrics were about is - that he feels he's cheating on first musical love 'hip-hop, neo soul ' by leaning towards playing more rock n roll. that's what he's talking about in his line "I only wanna fertilize another behind my lover's back".

But it's non-apologetic, as in he thinks he needs to experiment with styles to really cement his legend - aka, say what he needs to.

Roots, changed lyrics - but they had same experience the same sort of thing.
