No one really knows the extent of their involvement in Canada - how many children, where are they buried? The deceased children should be returned to their place of birth, it is a common way of initially righting the wrong. Yes, there should be criminal investigations by a separate party - even if it has to go to the world courts. To let the public know what happened to those children.
I can't really say that my relatives had an apology at of 2012. Being a second generation, I never had an apology either because the IRS was in Thunder Bay, Ontario and it was owned and operated by the Sisters of St. Joseph. Until such time as the Order of the Sisters of St. Joseph apologize in a public manner, the way the other participants from the Religious Orders have there is no foundation. So the truth and reconciliation process hasn't started with this group wherever they had schools..
There was a ton of crap happening at Muskowekan.A few years ago when they were renovating the Muskowekan Residential school for another purpose. Contractors found a unmarked burial site, when they redoing some of the sewage systems.

Every person i know who has gone to the residential stories has horror stories. so many horror stories over and over again of abuse and neglect.I heard the stories of babies burned in the furnaces at those schools. I've heard stories of forbidden comic books which also was terrifying. I remember the images of black furnaces in dark basements where kids were burnt. I read the stories and I will never ever trust the catholic religion. I'll take my chances in their sick twisted images of hell.

Its unlikely that this women is telling the truth because she said that the child that had the baby was seven. I only know of one Peruvian five year old named Lina Medina who gave birth at such a young age. It was reported that she had fully developed breasts, pubic hair and had a consistent period from the age of 3, this happened in 1939. This would have to be an extremely rare case where the child was capable of conceiving at seven or she is just lying.

This is why I have trouble believing in God, there is no coming back from the kind of suffering like that, if someone is burned a live, for example, whether the die or surviive the encounter, the expierenced a great deal of excruciating PAIN, now it's easy to say "oh well God will heal you, he will take away your pain or make you forget you past pain." But that still doesn't mean anything, at one POINT IN TIME, you still felt Excruciating PAIN at some time. Suffering is still suffering.

All of my grandparents have lived through and survived the residential school system from 1939-1950 in Ontario. They have all gone to bore children and treat them with the residual racism that they've experienced. To say 'us' and 'them' is horrid, this can happen to any population at any time.

she could have been known to be 7, and say, been 9..it's also possible tht she was more developed (possibly as a result of sexual abuse) and that the 'baby' was very premature/undeveloped - possibly a miscarriage.

There are 2 problems with this story. First, people have faulty memories, espeically of events that happened 60 years ago when they were young. Second, she claims the girl was 7 years old and pregnant. That has to be looked at with suspicion, since it is very unlikely that someone could become pregnant at that age.

Boys and girls were raped by priests, other staff and students, as well as visitors, regularly, from the moment of their incarceration in the "schools" until their release. I can safely say that this world makes me sick. How exactly did a 7 year old get pregnant in that school? Was that done in the name of God too? No one really knows the extent of their involvement in Canada - how many children, where are they buried? The deceased children should be returned to their place of birth, it is a common way of initially righting the wrong. Yes, there should be criminal investigations by a separate party - even if it has to go to the world courts. To let the public know what happened to those children.

I can't really say that my relatives had an apology at of 2012. Being a second generation, I never had an apology either because the IRS was in Thunder Bay, Ontario and it was owned and operated by the Sisters of St. Joseph. Until such time as the Order of the Sisters of St. Joseph apologize in a public manner, the way the other participants from the Religious Orders have there is no foundation. So the truth and reconciliation process hasn't started with this group wherever they had schools..

There was a ton of crap happening at Muskowekan.A few years ago when they were renovating the Muskowekan Residential school for another purpose. Contractors found a unmarked burial site, when they redoing some of the sewage systems.

Every person i know who has gone to the residential stories has horror stories. so many horror stories over and over again of abuse and neglect.I heard the stories of babies burned in the furnaces at those schools. I've heard stories of forbidden comic books which also was terrifying. I remember the images of black furnaces in dark basements where kids were burnt. I read the stories and I will never ever trust the catholic religion. I'll take my chances in their sick twisted images of hell.

Its unlikely that this women is telling the truth because she said that the child that had the baby was seven. I only know of one Peruvian five year old named Lina Medina who gave birth at such a young age. It was reported that she had fully developed breasts, pubic hair and had a consistent period from the age of 3, this happened in 1939. This would have to be an extremely rare case where the child was capable of conceiving at seven or she is just lying.

This is why I have trouble believing in God, there is no coming back from the kind of suffering like that, if someone is burned a live, for example, whether the die or surviive the encounter, the expierenced a great deal of excruciating PAIN, now it's easy to say "oh well God will heal you, he will take away your pain or make you forget you past pain." But that still doesn't mean anything, at one POINT IN TIME, you still felt Excruciating PAIN at some time. Suffering is still suffering.

what is "assimilation"? - "To kill the indian within the indian" - to forcibly take all the children of a group (all indigenous nations) to turn them into something else (christian farmworkers and domestics), brutally, with the stated intention that nothing of their culture will survive IS the intentional destruction of that group.
We canadians are fed this idea of assimilation as being such a well-meaning thing - it's NOT for the targeted group - it is genocide.

2-Yes there were abuses but not every res school was evil or bad, and ive spoken to some people who purported to be "survivors" and were found to have gone to those schools.
3-It was terrible but living in the past gets you nothing, and until Native people start worrying more about the future than the past we will be kept on reserves on welfare.

what I said still stands, its when they start making ridiculous claims such as 7 year olds being pregnant, carrying a child to full term and then watching as a baby is thrown in a furnace that I start being just a tad wary. there are far more validated claims of abuse that should be investigated. I am not saying that the res schools were abusive in many cases , I am saying that as Natives we need to choose our hills to die on.

However old this child was - that is not the case, Irene herself was a young child when this happened and many years has passed between then and now.
All of my grandparents have lived through and survived the residential school system from 1939-1950 in Ontario. They have all gone to bore children and treat them with the residual racism that they've experienced. To say 'us' and 'them' is horrid, this can happen to any population at any time.

she could have been known to be 7, and say, been 9..it's also possible tht she was more developed (possibly as a result of sexual abuse) and that the 'baby' was very premature/undeveloped - possibly a miscarriage.

I think you're mixing your 'logic' with scientifically/psychologically proven facts that anyone (including natives) that experiences a significantly negative event (a death of a family member, molestation, rape, etc.) in their life, is permanently scarred from it and can never be removed from memory - hence WHY they are so far removed from society. We, like they, are trying to understand the wrongs done. And it is a national travesty that needs to come to light!

There are 2 problems with this story. First, people have faulty memories, espeically of events that happened 60 years ago when they were young. Second, she claims the girl was 7 years old and pregnant. That has to be looked at with suspicion, since it is very unlikely that someone could become pregnant at that age.

It's evident you are new to this - right across the country, accounts like these are NOT unusual. Boys and girls were raped by priests, other staff and students, as well as visitors, regularly, from the moment of their incarceration in the "schools" until their release. Many unwanted (esp. by the rapists)pregnancies, many murders, many unmarked graves and even more ashes.
Details, such as the girl's exact age, may not be accurate. Seening & hearing a baby pitched into a fire? Unforgettable.

I'm native and love it but there is alot of pain behind growing up and being a native do 2 Residential schools. as far back as my great grandmother (kokum) my family has been through Residential school,i am the 4th generation and my great grandmother is still alive(98 years)

Oh just yesterday Greg Szymanski interviewed on his radio show a canadian native indian survivor (Alexander Green) who was sexually, emotionally and physical abused while attending these type of schools, he stated that he and his brother even buried a kid and were told not to talk about it.

I can safely say that this world makes me sick. How exactly did a 7 year old get pregnant in that school? Was that done in the name of God too? We think that other various terror groups and governments are so evil, yet has anyone actually sat down and did the math on how many people the world over that the Catholic Church has tortued and murdered from Europe to Asia to Australia to the Americas? there is far better evidence than claims that would be very tough to validate. if 7 year olds could get pregnant as a rule it would happen far more than once in a 100 years. its ridiculous claims like that that make it hard to take some of the claims seriously.

For validation, how about declaring all former residential school sites as CRIME sites and actually doing a thorough forensic investigation? Far from "ridiculous", the use of the school furnace to dispose of remains - either of children who died there, or of fetuses or full-births resulting from rapes by priests, staff or even other students - is a common claim.
[7yr olds do not get pregnant "as a rule" (need I point out that they are also not sexually active as a rule?), but it can happen.]

This is a horifying event, and there are wolves amongst sheep. There are wolves and sheeps clothing (Evil deguised as good) in all walks of life. Even today pedofiles infratrate churches, boy scouts and sports team coaches deguised as figures we can trust with our children. But all in all I have faith that most men are good, and will not let the devil bring hate to my heart. I pray for those who have suffered in Canada's ethnocide through residential schools.

i am very angered by this. i am native too! my grandmother went to the res. schools too, but i dont really know what happened in there for real. those fucking preists should pay for the destroyed lives of every native that went to school. esp. killing a newborn baby. thats just disrespectful to them. the people that ran the churches should die for all they did to us. converting us from our culture to the fucking white mans way!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fucking Canada. The entire world looks up at this state as if it were something very honourable with its peace-keeping missions and nice reputation. The UN has recently accused Canada of genocide, and rightfully so.
That's what this is, isn't it? Genocide. Residential schools with 30% to 50% mortality rates. Countless rapes, slaughters of new-born babies. These are only a few crimes among many.
Canada will have to answer for its crimes against humanity, just like Nazi Fucking Germany did.
