Love Vicky :) - had a Kelpie, LP (Little Princess) who was almost identical. Died on February 7 this year from heart failure. Miss her dearly - she was such a beautiful dog. Gave us 16 years of unconditional love. Thanks for posting this, cheered me up no end :)
I dont care who you are the Kelpie is a very good looking dog no matter how many kelpies you look at they are all very beautiful dogs. My dog Matilda is 100% kelpie and Australian and I swear that I am not bias at all your Vicky looks like another good example of a Kelpie smart energetic & no matter what country the Kelpie is from you will always win with a Kelpie!. Difference between vicky and my Matilda is that Vicky give the toy away!
What a beautiful Kelpie. I have an 8mth B&T Kelpie that I rescued directly from her family a couple of months ago. When we got her we were not sure of her breed, but could not have found a better dog. I can see more Kelpies in my future.
nice dog mate ive got a kelpie croos blue heeler awesome dogs great companion and i rescued mine from a dirty flee ridden cage the size of two shoe boxes and she loves and thanks me every day for it.
aww i feel bad :( i have a 5 year old black male kelpie and he is such a gentlemen kelpies are superior to small dogs that yap constinly once you go kelpie you'll never go back dogs are truly a mans best friend and when your dogs dies its like loosing you mate sorry man
I'm very sorry for your loss. My ACD boy went into the next dimension last September 2009. He had a heart murmur at 14 and started him on benazapril. He lived until he was 17 and it was cancer that ended his life. I'll never forget him and I'm sure you won't forget Vicky. I do believe all souls belong to God and there is no wrong in a dog especially. ACD's and Kelpies are wonderful companions, highly intelligent, and tireless workers.
great vid, i had a black Kelpie "rockella" she passed 22nd December 2008.. worst christmas ever! but I had 14 years of fun with her. She also passed due to heart complications, i miss her every day!
We had a pick of 6 dog in litter but all girls and we never had a girl B4.
So we did pick a dog, but I looked at a dog (Matilda) that walk off with a bone and drop it out of sight of the other pups then looked back to ensure that none of the other pups had seen her.
Right then and there we knew she was for us.
But if we didn't change our minds the other pup turned out to be bully and a shoe eater
i am sorry about vicky, she looked like a dear dog, our old dog died of a tumor on the pancreas, but we are adopting a kelpie labrador cross from the pound soon
I am so sorry for your loss. Vicky was obviously bright, sweet, devoted, and very special to you. I am sure that she knew that every day.
We adopted a kelpie mix 2 yrs ago. She is nothing short of a dream come true. It is wonderful for us, who hadn't even heard of kelpies, to come on here and see videos of dogs just like ours, posted by owners who clearly love them dearly. Thank you for sharing your memories. Tonight we will say a prayer for Vicky and Lizzie Lou.
You will be spoiled after having a Kelpie. They are easy to train and very loyal. We have a new puppy that is a mutt, a mix between Aussi Shepherd and Pit Bull we thin, not neerly as smart as Vicky was. We miss her.
i know they're great dogs but what about all the mental exercise they need
because i plan on getting 2 dogs at a time and im pretty sure about getting a vizsla but i dont want to get a kelpie which will tear up my back garden because not mentally stimulated or will simple games liek fetch and other things be enough ?soryy for your loss,
it must be horrible having lost her especially being an affectionate dog like a kelpie
They do need a lot of excercise and games when they are young. We were always playing catch, even in the house, and working on, sit, stay, lay, heel. We used hot dogs as treats. Cut them up into small pieces and microwaved them until they were a little dry, 4-5 min. She would always stay right with us as it is the Kelpie's nature.
they are the best. I have a Kelpie X lab and he is brilliant. Just be prepared to walk them alot! I mean 2 times a day if you can and give it a good run around with the ball too! Mine came up to me after not going out for a week after I injured my knee.He pulled his leash off the hook and brought it to me and draped it over my knee and look at me as if to say cmon, its walk time!I had never taught him to do that. They are great!
my kelpie dog harly is black and brown and when he has to do what he has to do he bites the door and barks funny huh? no its not its annoying bit i love him
This morning we just lost our Kelpie (Lizzie Lou), so appreciate how your family must feel. She apparently the same type of tumor, except on the spleen (hemangiosarcomas). She was 11. She also came from a dog shelter, but as a 6-8 wk pup.
Don't know if your Kelpie did this as well, but we would go to shut the back porch door and Lizzie would put her paw on the door, push back, and look around the door up at you like, "don't be silly." The Kelpies really are especially good dogs.
I dunno how I will ever get over my Kelpie, she is the most loving, wild unit I have ever known. She makes me fall in love with her every single day. Smart as all.
Rescued her from a dog shelter, she was a two time loser (more like her previous owners were losers), slated for the gas the next day. I picked her cause she was the only dog not barking and raising hell, and she looked at me like, "Who cares?"
she's only just 5yrs now, we have a good bit of time left together.
our kelpies work cattle. they are very intelligent and very fit. our vet was amazed by their pulse and blood pressure. if they could open gates they would be human, because they can already understand english haha
kelpies are mad dogs. i have one too, his names byron. at what age did you start teaching vicky frisbee? i want to teach him now but an instructor i know said wait until hes 12 months old. he said it was to prevent too much back twisting or some thing. byrons 5mths old
She always chased things naturally, we didn;t really start using the frisbee until she was about a year old. get the soft/flexible kind of frisbee, they like thise and they don't hurt as much to catch.
Cool thanks. Byron has such a high drive to chase things aswell. I'll wait till he's a little older before frisbee just to be on the safe side. i might get him an aerobie those things are mad and they go for ages and he'll have to run really far to get it, not like he's going to get worn out though lol.

I would never have anything but a Kelpie im on my 4rd!
It must be the Australian Climate because we all love to play rather than work lol.
Kelpies and Australian Shepard's are one world best working dog, some farmers here in Australia will pay up to $20000 for good Kelpie.

First of all I would like to say that I am sorry for your loss. It must be terribly difficult for you to part with such a special dog.
I have a kelpie who is almost three. He's incredibly smart, very intuitive and I love him to death.
He wins almost everything he goes in and he once saved me from an intruder.
Best dogs in the world.
