Saw these girls in '82 at the Hollywood Bowl---my first concert at 13. And it was sold out---all 18,000 plus seats! Clearly these early performance kicks ass! They rocked like no one's business---male or female.
Imagine what the early punk scene must have been like then. Makes today's alternative scene look like Sesame Street.

I saw them at the Roxy in 1980, I think Carlisle was wearing the same dress. They knocked my socks off. The next week I drove all over Orange and LA counties to find the import of We Got the Beat. I finally found it in an independent Long Beach record store. Hitting the LA clubs like the Roxy and Whiskey back then were some of the best times of my life so far.
This probably one of the best early recordings of the girls. I think they should put out an album of all PRE Beauty and the Beat songs. That would just fracking rock!

@ultimathewarrior I agree, but that thing about her weight has eaten her up practically her whole life leading to drug addiction, bulimia and other reckless behaviors. Really I think it goes back into her past with her father leaving her family when she was only 5. She never resolved the matter personally and she even gets teary eyed when she talks about it to this day. What a shame because she seems like such a beautiful woman with a beautiful spirit as well.

Im a Jane man myself. Seriously though? Almost one of the coolest bands ever. They missed it by that much! Surf, snotty, girly proto-punk. But they cheesed out and ended up lookin like an early screen test for the Golden Girls. Too bad, could have totally rocked.
