I'm looking for the first version of this I ever heard, about when it came out. It was on a kids' (I think) TV show, when they used to have decent musical acts on. DM played two songs, this and Photographic. When they played this it was a faster version, in my memory anyway. Any ideas?

I don't agree. Live drums are cool and some Martin's songs where he plays guitar sound very good too. But I agree that Alan was the big part of success of the band and without him it went downhill.

I loved it when Depeche Mode made pure analogue stuff with that Alan Howarth/John Carpenter synth bass horror edge. Thankfully they are still an excellent and original unique band today :)
