I think its kind of interesting that prevalent technologies change the effectiveness of certain members of the team over time. Dialtone was kind of a joke back in the 80's, but now is probably one of the most useful sources of intel their team possesses.

I'm not sure about everyone else... but Cobra just needs to be bad ass. I dont need (essentially) the writers telling me he's more bad ass by referencing & explaining away previous Cobra depictions. I think Lady Jaye is also standing next to Flint when Dial-Tone is describing the Strato-llites. Still it's a bit surprising she has no lines while Cover Girl got one.
I like the new look, but the major problem with this series is that with Gung Ho wearing a full tactical vest, it covers up his awesomely egregious Eagle, Globe, and Anchor tattoo.

Scarlett doesn't "belong" to Duke in ANY continuity! The Sunbow cartoon only lasted 2 seasons, and Scarlett only lasted 29 of those episodes before being phased out because her relationship with Duke was shallow, simplistic, and forced by the corporate interests of Hasbro and Sunbow who thought her romance with Snake Eyes would be too "difficult" for a cartoon. The comics have been around for 25 years, and Snake Eyes and Scarlett are an iconic couple!
Besides, if Snake Eyes could talk, the Duke relationship in the cartoons never would've happened, and that's a FACT! Larry Hama's Snake Eyes/Scarlett romance in the comics is considered canon, not some contrived storyline with Duke created by a toy company for their own convenience! :P
I respectfully disgree... and what is considered to be canon in the Joe world is highly subjective as there are plenty who consider the cartoon to be canon.
The truth is that Snake-Eyes doesn't talk and the storyline of her being with Duke works perfectly. To me... Duke and Scarlett are the iconic couple. Scarlett was also with Duke in the DIC series and now in resolute as well. Hama made up his own Joe world. The toon writers went a different direction and it worked well.
Forgive me, but Hama's came first, lasted the longest, and is the most beloved. Millions of Snake Eyes/Scarlett fans disagree with you, and Hama is the creator of the storyline, and he said specifically that Scarlett's heart belongs to Snake Eyes! He doesn't talk, but their love needs no words, and Duke and Scarlett will NEVER BE THE ICONIC COUPLE BECAUSE THE SNAKE EYES/SCARLETT FANS OUTNUMBER YOU 100 TO 1! Their romance had history, depth, and substance. Duke was just the leader of the team.
Hama's work might be the most beloved to you, but the average fan remembers the toon and probably never read the comic. 100 to 1, I don't think so. Hama is the creator of the comic continuity but as I'm sure you know. Joe has more than one continuity which is why it was perfectly acceptable to Hasbro to allow Scarlett to be linked to Ripcord for the movie. I would have rather them put her with Snake or Duke... at least it would've gone with one of the established stories.
You obviously underestimate the average fan and the comic's popularity. Do some googleing and you'll find that Snake Eyes/Scarlett have the most fans, fanfic, artwork, and fansites devoted to them. On GI JOE sites, the majority of fans prefer SE/Scarlett Yes, we do outnumber you by more than 100 to 1. Duke/Scarlett might be your preference, but it's still based on a simplistic, cliched, corporate-driven pairing for the convenience of Hasbro, not the artistic vision of Hama's SE/Scarlett story.
I would agree that you have more die hards on your side, the average fan is not a die hard though. I'm certain that most cartoon and movie viewers have no idea about Snake being with Scarlett. (Not very iconic) Duke/Scarlett was part of the cartoon writers vision, not Hama's and their vision is also "iconic", don't underestimate the lasting influence of thousands of kids tuning in on Sat. mornings.
Those "diehards" you refer too ARE the fans, and the average fan didn't care either way. Many crossed over from the cartoon(which was on weekdays, not Saturdays) to the comic and realized what they were missing. I was one of them! As I said, the animators, didn't have a vision, they were only being convenient, which is why Scarlett didn't last long in the Sunbow cartoon. And everything on the 'net shows that fans are angry with the movie because they want her with SE, not Ripcord or Duke.
As I stated, the SE/Scarlet comic book romance came first, and lasted a quarter-century, with the characters becoming engaged. The cartoon ran only 2 seasons, and Scarlett only lasted 29 of the 77 episodes before being phased out. That's right, Flint/Lady Jaye became the main couple in S2, and Duke was on his own, because Scarlett's character became boring with him. Hardly an iconic pairing. She and Snake Eyes define each other, and separating them diminishes both. DIC was never specific.
Subjective? I don't think so. Cartoons have long been known to screw up comic book canon. If a cartoon had Mary-Jane with someone other than Peter Parker, would people say it's "subjective"? NO! They'd say the cartoon got it wrong, and they'd be correct! Even the movie didn't put her with Duke. They messed up with the Ripcord thing, but they did imply a connection with Snake Eyes, which shows even the filmakers know which relationship is the more accepted one.
And since we're on the subject of Resolute, writer Warren Ellis admitted that he didn't know the first damn thing about the GI JOE comic when he got the job, so his version cannot be considered relevant over Hama's, whose epic canon will always be the gold standard. Snake Eyes and Scarlett have been a couple in the comics for 25 years, and they will be for 25 more, and 100 more after that, and the Duke pairing will fade from memory as just another Hollywood corruption of the comics.
what Ellis did was combine the comic relationship with the cartoon relationship. In Ellis's version, the triangle issue has been resolved with Scarlett choosing Duke. Personally, I liked how he blended the two, and of course I like the outcome because I grew up with the toon so I accept the Duke/Scarlett pairing as the right one.
And Ellis didn't combine anything! He knew nothing of the comics and barely referenced them. Scarlett choosing to stay with Duke and letting Snake Eyes go off on his own is hardly resolving the issue when you don't even explore it, as well as a total contradiction of Scarlett's character. Ellis changed Snake's entire backstory, conveniently removing Scarlett and the fateful helicopter crash that permanently linked their fates. He was a hired gun for Hasbro, picking up where Sunbow left off.
The fact that Ellis even had Scarlett choose between Duke and Snake tells us that he did at least some homework. DIC had them together as well, but the characters weren't featured as much. In the Joe world... canon is multiple choice because there are multiple made up stories that were conceived around the same time. Most would consider the toon or comic canon - and that all depends on who your talking too. Flint and LJ became the main couple due to toy release dates and nothing else.
Hama said himself to fans that "Scarlett's heart belongs to Snake Eyes" when addressing the discrepancy, and since he created the ORIGINAL storyline that the others branch off of, he has the last word. Ellis as I said, didn't know Scarlett's character very well, and if SE could talk, do you think anyone would've put Scarlett with Duke or Ripcord? NO! DIC never specified who she was with, as they had her in different episodes with both men, wthout ever making a choice. Neither show lasted long.
Sure the average fan cares... the average fan thinks she should be with Duke. Joe was on everyday of the week at some point during its run. Again, the only reason the toon switched to LJ was because that toy was released. The toon always featured that years released toys. Hama just made stuff up as he went - his words. Scarlett's heart belonging to Snake is fine for his story line but that doesn't cross over into the cartoon canon.
Sorry to disappoint you, but there are more Snake Eyes/Scarlett fans than Duke fans, and if you do your research you'll dicover this. They are the most popular chracters, together or separately, and it does cross into the cartoon in sublte ways(the scenes between them in the MASS device story for example). The Ripcord thing is a joke which no one likes. If the cartoon were all that, it would've lasted longer. Time is on our side, and Snake Eyes/Scarlett will outlast all others. That's iconic!
Snake/Scarlett will always have its following as will Duke/Scarlett. I'm a Duke/Scarlett guy but Id rather the movie have Snake/Scarlett than Rip/Scarlett because that at least makes since with one of the canon materials rather than attempt to create an all new one. Snake Duke Scarlett are some of the most popular. I would also agree that Snake/Scarlett fans are more vocal and loyal with more fansites. It doesnt mean that the casual fan doesnt think Duke should be with Scarlett due to the toon.

Snake Eyes/Scarlett was a tragic love story, whereas the Duke pairing was just to sell action figures. SE only took an explosion in the face for her, damaging his vocal chords while carrying her out of a burning wreck, and she still loved him in spite of his disfigurement. That's love! What did Duke do other than yell YO JOE? This is why the comic pairing has lasted so long, and is the most accepted. Canon is not multiple-choice. Lois Lane will always be with Superman, and Scarlett with SE.

The Sunbow cartoon came out a year after the comic was published, and the show's creators thought that their romance was too compilcated for a kids show since he can't talk, so they "put" her with Duke to make things easier for them, which was crap! The Duke/Scarlett thing doesn't exist in the comics at all! The show only lasted 77 episodes anyway, so it shouldn't count.

@nior000 You'd never guess he's voiced by Buster Bunny from the old Tiny Toons series of the early 90s, who in turn was Low-Light in the 80s GI Joe series and of course is now Starscream in the live action Transformer movies, another role originally played by the late Chris Latta. That man's name: Charles Adler.
Well the producers of today want to draw in a more diverse audience. In the past programs like GI Joe were thought to be "a boys show" so by adding female characters or making ones like Dial Tone into a female it draws in girls who would normally not watch something like GI Joe.
That is the same reason Dave Filoni and George Lucas added the female character Ahsoka Tano to Star Wars The Clone Wars.
This is the only version of Cobra Commander that I can accept now...the only bad thing bout this awsome Resolute version is that there is little cobra commander...but at least when he appears......you know you don't screw around...unless your duke...

All background stories were changed... like the Ripcord being darkskinned and apretty much everything...
Same as the 4 wolverine movies and spiderman... even Aang, the last airbender suffered a crappy adaptation (Mr Shyamalan... you know i can't lie).
Easter eggs like the bazooka jersey and jinx and the stickers were the only thing i liked.

Scarlett belongs with Duke in all cartoon episodes. The comic continuity doesn't exist in the toons.

Scarlett doesn't "belong" to Duke in ANY continuity! The Sunbow cartoon only lasted 2 seasons, and Scarlett only lasted 29 of those episodes before being phased out because her relationship with Duke was shallow, simplistic, and forced by the corporate interests of Hasbro and Sunbow who thought her romance with Snake Eyes would be too "difficult" for a cartoon. The comics have been around for 25 years, and Snake Eyes and Scarlett are an iconic couple!

Besides, if Snake Eyes could talk, the Duke relationship in the cartoons never would've happened, and that's a FACT! Larry Hama's Snake Eyes/Scarlett romance in the comics is considered canon, not some contrived storyline with Duke created by a toy company for their own convenience! :P

I respectfully disgree... and what is considered to be canon in the Joe world is highly subjective as there are plenty who consider the cartoon to be canon.
The truth is that Snake-Eyes doesn't talk and the storyline of her being with Duke works perfectly. To me... Duke and Scarlett are the iconic couple. Scarlett was also with Duke in the DIC series and now in resolute as well. Hama made up his own Joe world. The toon writers went a different direction and it worked well.

Forgive me, but Hama's came first, lasted the longest, and is the most beloved. Millions of Snake Eyes/Scarlett fans disagree with you, and Hama is the creator of the storyline, and he said specifically that Scarlett's heart belongs to Snake Eyes! He doesn't talk, but their love needs no words, and Duke and Scarlett will NEVER BE THE ICONIC COUPLE BECAUSE THE SNAKE EYES/SCARLETT FANS OUTNUMBER YOU 100 TO 1! Their romance had history, depth, and substance. Duke was just the leader of the team.

Hama's work might be the most beloved to you, but the average fan remembers the toon and probably never read the comic. 100 to 1, I don't think so. Hama is the creator of the comic continuity but as I'm sure you know. Joe has more than one continuity which is why it was perfectly acceptable to Hasbro to allow Scarlett to be linked to Ripcord for the movie. I would have rather them put her with Snake or Duke... at least it would've gone with one of the established stories.

You obviously underestimate the average fan and the comic's popularity. Do some googleing and you'll find that Snake Eyes/Scarlett have the most fans, fanfic, artwork, and fansites devoted to them. On GI JOE sites, the majority of fans prefer SE/Scarlett Yes, we do outnumber you by more than 100 to 1. Duke/Scarlett might be your preference, but it's still based on a simplistic, cliched, corporate-driven pairing for the convenience of Hasbro, not the artistic vision of Hama's SE/Scarlett story.

I would agree that you have more die hards on your side, the average fan is not a die hard though. I'm certain that most cartoon and movie viewers have no idea about Snake being with Scarlett. (Not very iconic) Duke/Scarlett was part of the cartoon writers vision, not Hama's and their vision is also "iconic", don't underestimate the lasting influence of thousands of kids tuning in on Sat. mornings.

Those "diehards" you refer too ARE the fans, and the average fan didn't care either way. Many crossed over from the cartoon(which was on weekdays, not Saturdays) to the comic and realized what they were missing. I was one of them! As I said, the animators, didn't have a vision, they were only being convenient, which is why Scarlett didn't last long in the Sunbow cartoon. And everything on the 'net shows that fans are angry with the movie because they want her with SE, not Ripcord or Duke.

As I stated, the SE/Scarlet comic book romance came first, and lasted a quarter-century, with the characters becoming engaged. The cartoon ran only 2 seasons, and Scarlett only lasted 29 of the 77 episodes before being phased out. That's right, Flint/Lady Jaye became the main couple in S2, and Duke was on his own, because Scarlett's character became boring with him. Hardly an iconic pairing. She and Snake Eyes define each other, and separating them diminishes both. DIC was never specific.

Subjective? I don't think so. Cartoons have long been known to screw up comic book canon. If a cartoon had Mary-Jane with someone other than Peter Parker, would people say it's "subjective"? NO! They'd say the cartoon got it wrong, and they'd be correct! Even the movie didn't put her with Duke. They messed up with the Ripcord thing, but they did imply a connection with Snake Eyes, which shows even the filmakers know which relationship is the more accepted one.

And since we're on the subject of Resolute, writer Warren Ellis admitted that he didn't know the first damn thing about the GI JOE comic when he got the job, so his version cannot be considered relevant over Hama's, whose epic canon will always be the gold standard. Snake Eyes and Scarlett have been a couple in the comics for 25 years, and they will be for 25 more, and 100 more after that, and the Duke pairing will fade from memory as just another Hollywood corruption of the comics.

what Ellis did was combine the comic relationship with the cartoon relationship. In Ellis's version, the triangle issue has been resolved with Scarlett choosing Duke. Personally, I liked how he blended the two, and of course I like the outcome because I grew up with the toon so I accept the Duke/Scarlett pairing as the right one.

And Ellis didn't combine anything! He knew nothing of the comics and barely referenced them. Scarlett choosing to stay with Duke and letting Snake Eyes go off on his own is hardly resolving the issue when you don't even explore it, as well as a total contradiction of Scarlett's character. Ellis changed Snake's entire backstory, conveniently removing Scarlett and the fateful helicopter crash that permanently linked their fates. He was a hired gun for Hasbro, picking up where Sunbow left off.

The fact that Ellis even had Scarlett choose between Duke and Snake tells us that he did at least some homework. DIC had them together as well, but the characters weren't featured as much. In the Joe world... canon is multiple choice because there are multiple made up stories that were conceived around the same time. Most would consider the toon or comic canon - and that all depends on who your talking too. Flint and LJ became the main couple due to toy release dates and nothing else.

Hama said himself to fans that "Scarlett's heart belongs to Snake Eyes" when addressing the discrepancy, and since he created the ORIGINAL storyline that the others branch off of, he has the last word. Ellis as I said, didn't know Scarlett's character very well, and if SE could talk, do you think anyone would've put Scarlett with Duke or Ripcord? NO! DIC never specified who she was with, as they had her in different episodes with both men, wthout ever making a choice. Neither show lasted long.

Sure the average fan cares... the average fan thinks she should be with Duke. Joe was on everyday of the week at some point during its run. Again, the only reason the toon switched to LJ was because that toy was released. The toon always featured that years released toys. Hama just made stuff up as he went - his words. Scarlett's heart belonging to Snake is fine for his story line but that doesn't cross over into the cartoon canon.

Sorry to disappoint you, but there are more Snake Eyes/Scarlett fans than Duke fans, and if you do your research you'll dicover this. They are the most popular chracters, together or separately, and it does cross into the cartoon in sublte ways(the scenes between them in the MASS device story for example). The Ripcord thing is a joke which no one likes. If the cartoon were all that, it would've lasted longer. Time is on our side, and Snake Eyes/Scarlett will outlast all others. That's iconic!

I'm a Duke/Scarlett guy but Id rather the movie have Snake/Scarlett than Rip/Scarlett because that at least makes since with one of the canon materials rather than attempt to create an all new one. Snake Duke Scarlett are some of the most popular. I would also agree that Snake/Scarlett fans are more vocal and loyal with more fansites. It doesnt mean that the casual fan doesnt think Duke should be with Scarlett due to the toon.

Snake Eyes/Scarlett was a tragic love story, whereas the Duke pairing was just to sell action figures. SE only took an explosion in the face for her, damaging his vocal chords while carrying her out of a burning wreck, and she still loved him in spite of his disfigurement. That's love! What did Duke do other than yell YO JOE? This is why the comic pairing has lasted so long, and is the most accepted. Canon is not multiple-choice. Lois Lane will always be with Superman, and Scarlett with SE.

In the Joe world, we have the comic with Snake/Scarlett, cartoon Duke/Scarlett, and now movie Ripcord/Scarlett. So Snake/Scarlett is far from iconic if they were iconic the film makers wouldnt have been allowed to change it. And Snake Eyes/Scarlett are inded the iconic pairing if you check out the web. Flimakers have messed with other comic book canon before, which doesn't make it right.

Here they disagree and the very makers of the toy themselves didn't care if the movie makers put Scarlett with Ripcord. If they truly were as iconic as you claim - the movie would've been more faithful to the relationship and the toons would be too. Hasbro didn't care because who Scarlett is with was open. So now it's a square instead of a triangle.

It's not a square, a triangle, or anything! The filmakers and Habro's only issue is Snake Eyes not talking. That's it! There is no other reason! And movies and tv have been unfaithful before: Joker killing Bruce Wayne's parents; Cyclops being killed off in X3; Superman a deabeat dad(thanks Singer!); but that doesn't change the accepted canon. It took years after Schumacher's lousy films for Batman to be fully realized by Nolan, and one day, Snake Eyes/Scarlett will get the same treatment.

Arrrgh! No, there never was a triangle! Scarlett has only ever been with Snake Eyes in the comics for the last 25 years! The Sunbow cartoon came out a year after the comic was published, and the show's creators thought that their romance was too compilcated for a kids show since he can't talk, so they "put" her with Duke to make things easier for them, which was crap! The Duke/Scarlett thing doesn't exist in the comics at all! The show only lasted 77 episodes anyway, so it shouldn't count.

That man's name: Charles Adler.

Well the producers of today want to draw in a more diverse audience. In the past programs like GI Joe were thought to be "a boys show" so by adding female characters or making ones like Dial Tone into a female it draws in girls who would normally not watch something like GI Joe.
That is the same reason Dave Filoni and George Lucas added the female character Ahsoka Tano to Star Wars The Clone Wars.
