@apt95 Well, you could. But I don't really see the point. It would be like pushing a Ferrari home, when you run out of gas... And you can put a little engine on the back, although I don't really like to do that, because of the extra weight.
Up to half a meter is no problem. Higher waves requires some experience. When waves are long, there is no problem as well as the Rave will just follow them up and down. Only short chop over 1 meters will be difficult as the foils may come out of the water when leaving a wave and then the lift is gobe, resulting in the boat falling back into the water.
i have served 22 years in the british army, im out in november next year. I have been reading about these trimirans for an age. As aa treat to myself im buying one, next year if you see one hooning around the northsea coast of Germany, thatll be me,,cant wait,,let the adventure begin
Waar kan ik een Rave bekijken in NL? Heb nu een 49-er in Almeerderzand, maar zeilde vorig jaar ns delivery met Hi-Q (ex Groupama 1). THe multihullbug bites...
The outriggers have not much volume, most resistance has the mainhull where also the rudder is located. When not flying it tacks easier than a catamaran. When flying, you should gybe. Going 1.5x the windspeed and turning into the wind the pressure of the wind will be 2.5x in total. When gybing the combined the stress is only 0.5 times the windspeed in total. Compare it to fast windsurfers where gybing can be done with just two fingers holding the sail. Difficult to grasp for slow sailors ;-)
Actually, my Rave pivoted as easily as a needle on a compass. The steering was very quick. It was the most responsive multihull I've ever owned. You need about 15mph wind to fly; more if carrying a crew. Total weight of pilot and crew determines how much wind will get you into a liftoff. You want to keep it under 40mph because the rig can come down at around 45mph.
If you want to fly you will need about 12 knots of wind (depending on your weight ofcourse) But even with less wind it sails ok. Ofcourse not as fast then a catamaran that doesnt have the drag of the three large foils. However, you can lift the foils up to decrease their drag in low winds.
Excellent production. Exciting and creative video complemented by great audio. A thrill to watch and I have done that several times and will so again.
The pilot that went flying had a soft landing as well fortunately! We use the video for boatshows and exibitions and the cut-off provides the perfect incentive for people to come to us to ask what happened and then we can start talking...
that looks amazing-and like a lot of fun.
out of curiosity, could it be paddled like a kayak, i case the wind dies out or something?

30 knots with ease. And if you really push it, up to 40! But then it can get pretty scary...

Well, apart from for Europe, we also distribute the Windriders for Asia. We hope to have some Raves there later this year...

Good to see another Rave video out there. See my posted video if you want to see more Rave action.
What happened to the lofted foil victim (video was cut during the loft - backflip)? I've had that happen on my Rave. Scary, but had a soft landing!
