Saw this movie a few weeks ago. Although I wouldn't be in a rush to rewatch it, I'd say it was great. And I was so impressed by PSH's acting. I definitely want to see more movies with him. Best actor I've come across in a long time.
"Love Liza could do for Mr. Hoffman what Leaving Las Vegas did for Nicolas Cage."
- Rex Reed, New York Observer
That is kind of ironic, because Nicolas Cage was nominated that year for Adaptation. No offense to Cage, but I don't think there is anything Oscar-worthy about him at all. Leaving Las Vegas was the best performance of his career, but overall, there's nothing sophisticated about him as an actor. I think they should have replaced Cage in Adaptation that year with Hoffman in Love Liza.
does anybody know the song/artist that begins when he goes into the house to get the bottle opener? It doesn't seem to be listed in the credits. I bought all the O'rourke CD's and it's not his music.
Jim O'Rourke does all of the music for this film. He has produced two Wilco albums and has done a lot of work with the group Sonic Youth. This musician is truly a brilliant American artist...and he deserves much, much more attention.
This movie is fantastic, every time I see it I get something different out of it. Probably one of the best movies ever (and I hate this kind of comment, as if art was a racetrack). But this film definitely deals with some serious shit in a funny and touching way.
I`m a big fan of Garden State and its on my top favorite movies list... but LOVE LIZA is probably a better movie(better actors and a story)... it's also a very sad movie and people these days don't want to watch sad movies... kind of sucks...

A great movie, and so sad. Suicide may seem like a quick/clean way out, but the devastating mess it leaves behind can never be cleaned up.

indeed, he is really brilliant. jeff buckley and will oldham, who also worked with wilco, are on the soundtrack too.
