That stillborn latin-french Frankenstein monster has no chance against real, modern languages like English, Arabic or Chinese with strength in their loins. It was just an eschar on the body of dying, decadent Europe.
Subjective fancies and zealous fanatics will be the death of the constructed auxiliary language. Esperanto was a good basis but needed much improvement so Ido came and took those reigns, however not surprisingly the Esperanto community acted like Zamenhof was a prophet and his word was unchangeable (even by himself for the better) and fought tooth and nail for Esperanto to stay as ugly and broken as it was and to this day we still have this viscous downward spiral of hopeless dreams.
I speak Spanish and Esperanto, but I was able to understand most of this without ever studying any Ido. I will stick with Esperanto, but I applaud Ido.
Unfortunately, no auxlang will succeed. Ido is one of the best, but it's grammar still has issues. LFN is probably the easiest to learn and most regular. But, no auxlang can supplant English as the universal language. It's just too useful and it's actually pretty simple to learn, although difficult to master. As a Korean, it took me over 8 months to learn English and another year to pretty much master it. But, then again, I was very young. Anyway, I like Ido, LFN and Glossa best. Good luck.
There are about 100 Esperanto derivations (Esperantidoj). Ido was not even the first. Some of the esperantidoj are crazily funny.
For me Ido would have been better as the IAL winner, because my native language is Spanish, but Ido caused that natives of Germanic and Slav languages felt excluded, and then opposed the idea of an auxlang. And worse, Ido brought : schism, demoralization, desorientation, endless quarrels, enemities, bad press, and pathological reform-mania. Great record, Ido !!
I am going to study Ido today! I've bounced around the IAL sites and like several conlangs for different reasons, but I've only stayed with a few long enough to find fault and move on. I spent the most time trying to learn Euro-Glosa (I even bought some books) but cannot get my brain to work with isolating grammar. This song encourage me to try Ido. It sounds great. Is there a playlist of Ido music on YouTube?
Listen up all nerds. The one constructed language that has the best chance of success is Klingon because it comes from a totally different direction than the other sinking ships such as Solresol, Esperanto, Volapük etc. English, btw, has been the winner since some time already in the fight for supremacy. Read Darwin and weep!
The 'korelativoj' are ugly in Esperanto, too regular. The Ido ones sound more natural and need a less strict articulation to distinguish them. In that respect Ido is an improvement.
@finecool1 it really does! I dont like how the plural to esperanto words have that "-oy" sound. It looks cool to have a random "-j" at the end but I don't like the sound. I prefer the word "patri" or "patroj".
Sorry, I just deleted your comment (hit remove when I tried to hit reply). Here's what you wrote:
"get back to me when ido has anywhere near the number of speakers as esperanto. it IS the way forward... as in, it's not the NOW but it IS the future, hopefully."
And now to reply to that: get back to you on what? I'm not the one making any claims that Ido IS the future. Right now none of the IALs are the future, much as we'd like them to be. Here's hoping one of them succeeds.
oh right, i understand. i was just being hopeful. you say none of the IALs are the future but how do you know? i know what you mean- they aren't as successful as they should be, but you don't know how they will turn out in the future. i can see a day when esperanto suddenly shoots up in poularity. like if a celebrity starts learning it (that seems to be the only way of getting things done these days).
Sure, and I'm up for that. Thanks to Ido and talking with other auxlangers I can already understand just about anything written in Esperanto so it's no problem for me. I like every IAL I see to a certain extent, and Esperanto is no exception.
Maybe it was the Brazilian music, but I thought it sounded a bit like sanitized Portuguese and simplified Latin. It was more beautiful than I imagined (Anglo Latin). It still amazes me that in the 21st century the human family is so linguistically divided. To top it off, all books written in Ido are out of print!
that's why esperanto is the way forward, mia amiko. i still like this song, but they shouldn't have tried to change esperanto, it's fine as it is (bar a couple of problems but which language is perfect?).
Get back to me on that when you can use Esperanto in a cab from the airport or in hotels in most countries. I do hope that one language attains this state (including Esperanto) but until then there's no use calling any IALs "the way forward". It's like Liechtenstein calling the Vatican puny.
Kaj surstrate ploras nokto, nokto ploras. Restas preskaŭ nenio ĝis mateno kaj aŭroro ŝiras inter ni fadenon. Nian solan nokton ĉiam ni memoros... En fenestron batas pluvo, nokto ploras.
Bela kanto, kaj tre bela kantado. Ĝi multe plaĉis al mi fakte, estis la unua fojo por mi, aŭdi Idon kantiĝata. Bondezirojn de Emily Barlaston (fraŭlino)

Anybody knows about Mondlango? An artificial language based on English words and grammar.
WolfsFurz 1 year ago
@WolfsFurz Mondlango is simply another offspring of Esperanto but modified somewhat like IDO.

Wow, Ido is a beautiful language. It sounds better than Esperanto in my opinion.

It does not really sound different from Esperanto, IMO.

one reason why i think esperanto's the best IAL is that it has the most speakers and is therefore already ahead in the 'race' to be 'the' IAL.

It's a lovely language to sing in - sounds like a cross between Italian and Provencal. One day I'll get around to learning it!
