  • This shit is precisely why I'm laughing at at the major labels failing. So the young ones know, the major labels had been fucking over talent and the listeners for years with cheap ass stunts...but they got theirs in the end.

  • @saltjunkie77 Yeah they really got theirs. They have whole catalogs of music by incredibly talented artists that they can sell and market at will. I appreciate what you're saying and yes, the age of big label dominance is pretty much over, but they still have alot of music they own that they can exploit. And it's sad that new artists coming up can't take advantage of some of the money and mass distrubution that used to exist. Still, it's better for the artist's creative control.

  • @honuman39 And think for once sarcastic moron, they did get thiers...many of them have gone bankrupt or are close. I don't see how they did well for themselves in the long run.

  • They are from Austin, Texas. :)

  • Their best of the lot!! And the rest are pretty great too!

  • 350$ wtf?

  • John Ike-Walton builds drums and kalimba style finger pianos, available from the 13th floor elevators website.

  • Interesting to run accross this clip. In the mid 60's I met Rock, he was a couple of years younger than me. So I made this poster and later took him to the Avalon. He'd have a great carreer if his mom did not lock him in his house for the rest ofhis life.

  • Think Rocky was 16 when he wrote this song. Brillant!!

How Rocky survived his unjust incaration in a physc ward and came out the other side is remarkable. Experimental drugs and electric shock treatment did not kill his spirit!

  • @cozener1 Have you seen him lately?

  • ILLUMINATI

  • Roky and this band will NEVER get the credit they deserve for defining a sound that so many others imitated.

  • It is wonderful how generous and helpful the recording company executives are...NOT

  • The Psychedelic Rangers formed in early '65, while the 13th Floor Elevators formed in November of '65 I think, so they aren't the FIRST psychedelic band but they're still one of the very first.

  • Yes the elevators were the first to call it psychedelic, but the Byrds did record "8 miles high in dec.'65.The elevators album came out as late as nov.'66.

  • illumaniti ass pyramid with eye and 13th flloor 13th degree mason im just saying its soo obvios

  • Took me twenty five years to find out the name of this song and the group. Nobody can touch these guys. I still get chills.

  • @keilaman

Not true. Eight Miles High was around 1966-67.

    This was 65-66.

  • Hah Heard It On High Fidelity... Tune (:

  • anyone who says this isn't psychedelic rock is obviously clueless to the fact that the 13th floor elevators were the first ones to actually call their music psychedelic rock

  • Comment removed

  • They recorded all their albums on acid.

  • @DrPhucker I can believe that. And I also believe Drummer John Walton, when he said all he got from his record label was about 350 dollars. F*cking musicians / bands over is standard faire for the music industry.

  • The Make-Up. You stole.

  • Levitation is one of the best. It's a song you think you heard before but somehow got lost in time and space. It sounds familiar though, right? Might of heard it on the radio one time when I was a kid I guess...

  • I disagree that this is the best song ever. I actually liked I got levitation more.

  • I was so young when I heard this the first time... I think it almost was one of the marks causing those wonder years~~

  • ONE OF THE GREATEST SONGS OF THE 1960's -- AN ERA OF THE GREATEST MUSIC OF ALL TIME -- "w5d" said that ! ! Yeah ! !

  • i agree- the best music of all time was created in the 1960's.

  • It sure is nice to have those little 45s with the blue labels though!

  • An excellent example of high octane Psychedelic Rock. Excellent video.

  • THIS

    SONG

    ROCKS

  • Absolutely love this song for a loonnng time. check out a tribute cover version that my band recently recorded in our band room if you get a chance - alas could'nt get a jug player..

  • You're around 5 right? Post up your video. A whole army of new rock couldn't come up with a better song.

  • Or a more innovative song. Or a more rejuvenative song. Or...

... but of course. Now it's money first, fuck quality.

  • This song sends shivers down my spine...

  • It's easy to understand how Janis Joplin considered Roky Erickson her greatest influence. Hell, she sounded like a female version of him.

  • thatz punnxz

  • the Solo at the End is GOrgeOus !

  • right on.

  • 13th floor elevators......gran sonido...en todo el furor de la sicodelia ♥♥♥ yo amo el rock ♥♥♥....larga vida al rock and roll

  • TOO MANY DRUGS FOR THAT DUDE!!!!

  • Remove the "B" from your post. It'll make perfect sense.

  • Win. You gain 10 internet points.

  • such a kickin jam

  • If this isn't psychedelic rock then there is no such thing...

  • This is garage rock. The Beatles "Tomorrow Never Knows" is psychedelic rock. This is cool song anyway.

  • astronomy domine is psychedelic rock

  • alll piper at the gate of dawn is the perfect example of psycodelic rock. for me is the bestttt

  • the first few floyd albums were the best.

  • love the wow and flutter!

  • awsum!

  • they played a song from roky lately on "men in trees".

  • ROKY ERICKSON IS THE SHAMAN

  • Yeah, I think a lot of the Elevators' obscurity can be attributed to IA's lack of competence. Sure, the drugs played a part but they could have had a bigger career if they'd held out for a deal with Elektra. Great vid! There has got to be some live footage collecting dust somewhere.

  • this is sick. wonderful.

  • grossartig!mehr davon..... danke brian110x

  • beautiful.

i absolutely must know more psychedelic rock like this!

  • This isn't pysch yet, it's still Garage Rock.

  • Yes, it's basically a garage rock tune but the choruses and the "electric jug" are psych elements for me.

Their debut album has some psych nuggets as well.

  • Great post. Thanks.

  • Does anyone reminber Max and the Laughing Kind from Texas?

  • comin cominn blew almost dance ugh ugh ugh o

  • I love the hook: You didn't realiiiiiiiiiiiize

  • Word to dat

  • People who listen to music of the 60's do not say "word to dat" Go back to watching rap videos

  • word to dat niggaaa dis bloke be talkin sum wack shit straight up homie aight peace

  • I love how you threw 'bloke' in there!

  • Woah! No need to get all cranky. Stop making assumptions about the kind of music I listen to and how people should and shouldn't talk.

  • whats wrong with rap grandpa?

  • the Fuk you on about Raps Like 30 Years Old!!!!

  • if people who are into rap also like 60's music just shows they have an open mind. I say 'right on!' to that.

  • idiot yes it is

  • Hello John, it's mike jones in austin now. I would like to catch up and get some bongo boxes from you. let me know!

  • I thought it was 300 acid trips? The Elevators were genius's, like the Stooges. But no David Bowie around to rescue Roky - another Syd Barrett story. Acid screwed alot of people up. I know, I lived in LA and was 15 in 1966 and it was not illegal yet. And you know who was in town at that time? The Grateful Dead, getting their first record out. Everybody was eating it like candy. The Elevators were so great.

  • 13th floor elevators are the SHIT!!!.... i want more... its like a drug

  • @godalmightyplzhelpme we liquified an album, injected, best trip ever! definitely recommended.

  • @godalmightyplzhelpme I agree!

  • This is not the Elevators...I believe it could be footage of guiatarist Stacey Sutherland's early 70's cover band Raincrow...SS only person recognizeable in the video.......that is not Roky and that is not John Ike W.

  • MANOMAN! This really brings it back, glad dell has ressurected this tune from oblivion. These guys pretty much kicked off the psycodelic era in music,I was there, or should I say "then".!!

  • I dunno y I was thinking about this group this morning when I was mixing cement. Reminded me of r old group "Wasted Space" and gigin' taverns, wot a fuckin' blast.

  • I spent the first week of August with John Ike Walton, the guy you saw in the interview. He has no bad feelings. Ronnie Leatherman lives about 5 miles from him. I expect to be down there again this weekend or early next week, depending on how soon I can get my car running again!

  • The Dell Ad is what sparked my interest in this song.

  • FONZO HERE'S ROKY FOR YA

  • Classic is such a lame word, finally after 40 yrs of digging around someone sort of got it right. The Magoos were so great and so is Roky and his revilers. God they were headling at the Avalon in SF to some of the greatest groups of the 60's and now all any one knows about them is some scummy Dell PC ad. Sad ending. But what they left us musically and lyrically was an attempt at a way of life too. Lovely

  • Don't remember seeing the Dell ad. What I do remember about the group is their music is the song "you're gonna miss me" in the movie "Hi Fidelity". Watched the documentary "You're gonna miss me" this afternoon. Jarring. I'm buying some albums.

  • I wouldn't call that an ending. The elevators music will live well past any commercials its used in. Just saw that your comment was from 2 years ago.

  • The 13th Floor Elevators' first album was one of the earliest use of the word "psychedelia" in a commercial product. I'm not sure if it was the first though, that might've been the Blues Magoos album "Psychedelic Lollipop," realeased around the same time. Oh well, classic sound nonetheless.

  • I do miss you! The 13th Floor Elevators was the original psychedellic group! "Menopause Midge"

  • great stuff, thanks

  • hey Hiikua25 this video and its comments are for peaceful people man,, so why dont you quit bein a fuckin dickhead?

  • Ahh the memories of 13th Floor & LSD... oh to be in 1973 again!

  • If you listened to these guys and took LSD in 73, sorry, you ain't 1hotgirl!!!!

  • Didn't you have a record player you dope?

  • I love the shuffling bass sound.

  • thats an electric jug - only one known

I have no idea how its electric, but many bands experimented with jug playing...

it's the signature component to the 13th floor elevators

  • The jug is electrically amplified (by a microphone) thats basically it.

  • well, yes and no - I certainly enjoy Roky more,

but some guy asked about the jug, and it undoubtedly adds to their sound making them different. The entire sound is what defines them (the signature part) - yes that was worded somewhat wrong

  • jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahr

  • GREAT CLIP ! THANK YOU

  • I'll take a Dell Dimension desktop with 19" flatscreen monitor and 256MB nVidia Geforce 7300LE TurboCache.

  • I nappped between high school and work in the sixties to this. Great stuff.

  • I got to agree with everyone, great clip!! I didn't know any footage existed other than the Dick Clark, pool party. Those lyrics on Easter Everywhere are absolute genius. Nothing touches them, I wish someone would find a whole live set like they did with Zackery Thaks! Great job boyo!!!

  • boyo? Are you welsh? Love the Elevators. Today I bought a 'Best of@ - 20 tracks from HMV £5.99. Absolutely brilliant. It's got 'Gloria' live and Slip Inside this house. Get out there and buy it. It's a corker. Best wishes

  • ...I could be mistaken , I know they look a bit older, but Roky,J.I.+Ron played briefly in 72-3w/o Stacey , then Stacey , J.I and Ron played once in 77 w/o Roky.If that's Tommy in background , he never played w/ band after 68-9.In any case, great clip.

  • Roky's brother told me this was the original band ca. 1967 (If not poss.68). They look different , I know , but it's John Ike , Ronnie , Roky , Stacey..lineup changed a lot. Stacey and Roky never played together again after 68-9.

  • Anybody have anymore Roky clips? Old ones?

He played at my senior prom - 1968!

  • Which school did you attend?

  • Memorial 64-68 in Houston

  • Very cool! I went to Milby. Grad in '73.

  • There are a lot of solo Roky clips I found on youtube that are great. Just do a search of his name.

  • Crazy - is this performance film from their 1st reunion in late 60s, or is it early 70s, is there more of it...real great to even catch a glimpse of this stuff...too much, nice one thanks for sharing! Lenny (the Thanes)
