My parents moved to Spain several years ago to retire. The Spanish health care system is far better than the US system.
My sister in law just got out of hospital here in the states, she has vasculitus of the brain, and she can not be seen by a specialist until April. My father had chest pains and was admitted to hospital in Spain the same week and had stents put in. He is doing very well, my sister in law on the hand is a different story. While she waits she gets almost no treatment.

Americans who support paying higher taxes for government-run healthcare forget the efficiency of already-existing government agencies/efforts: the Post Office, your local DMV, Katrina relief, even the existing Medicare system illustrate how efficient such programs are. To start, you may be happy with your health insurance and there may be 34 states that help with pre-X conditions but the real question is what about the other 16 states? People support a govt option because your hospitals and drug companies gouge the fuck out of your insurance companies causing you to pay unreasonable premiums or get denied coverage so they can stay profitable which they do in spades.

I think you may be a little confused here. When Medicare has to pay 2 to 3 times more than insurance companies you should be investigating the ongoing corruption of the AMA and various private hospitals. I once met a guy whose grandmother was charged $75 for a "saliva recepticle" by a hospital, turns out those tissues were pretty pricey. As for politcal corruption, shouldnt you have been more up in arms when Cheney was making millions through Haliburtons involvedment in Iraq?
You should absolutely be investigating the AMA and private hospitals. Medicare does not make up the billing amounts, the hopitals and doctors do, then Medicare has to pay the tab. You are simply being gouged by healthcare providers, this is why people without insurance could never pay and why copayments force people into bankruptcy. What is needed is severe restrictions on the upper limits of medical billing, this however will not solve the problem of lower income uninsured people.
Look man. What i am saying is that at at walgreens you can but tylenol for like $0.10 a piece while at the hospital they bill you or your insurance company over $5 for it. That is not medicares fault, that is your beloved capitalist system at its best. Your solution is either severe restrictions on healthcare providers and their billing practices or a govt option. Either one will get labeled as big bad socialism but at least it will aleviate the absurd billing issues you people have.
Those politicians that are getting bought off is nothing new in Washington. If you want to do away with this your best bet is let the current administration regulate the hell out of the industry or put forth a strong public option. Basically you have two choices, 1 let the govt set the max billing standards or 2 let the healthcare providers do it. At least with the govt they can try to run a public system without a profit which is better than the current for profit system. Take your pick.

Of anything you should worry about is the health insurance companies themselves. If you waive hundreds of thousands of dollars in front of people it can be hard to resist so your better to go after those that are waiving the money around. Put them out of business and you will see a change as just blaming politicians will not work.
So, you can go on about the politicians this or that or whatever but it does not change your options.
Also, again, why dont you look at the people that write up the receipts for your healthcare costs rather than the people that pay it. As for different results, if we are the same age i will outlive you so our govt run system seems to work better.

I will not argue with you on the politicians being evil however you seem to keep missing the point. You and i live under 2 different healthcare systems, yours is private while mine is public. Now, considering mine costs less on average while the care is rated by the W.H.O. as better, even though ours is run by the govt, i can live with it. Canadian politicians dont generally get bribed by lobbyists as we dont allow those people to exist within our political sphere.
That being said your best bet would be to crack down on the lobbyists (usually employed by insurance and pharma companies) so that your politicians are forced to do what they were elected to do: Look out for the best interests of their constituants. Until then your politicians will get bribed and you will get denied care for a profit. All said, a national health plan is really the way to go, lets just hope that you all dont get too scared to do the right thing. Peace.

I'm an Australian and we have public health care, it works really well. Nobody is left behind and nobody really misses the money. The government also provides a tax rebate for those who can afford private health care, Australians seem pretty happy with that plan.

Extending health insurance to children up to age 26 with the current unemployment rate is a sham. Most recent graduates working part time do not qualify. Only if they DO NOT WORK at all. That's because if an employer offers insurance, which is required by law with 50+ employees, grads must pay out of pocket for inferior coverage. Rich kids can take years off after graduation w/quality health care. Poor kids working part-time looking for full-time work get inferior coverage unless they quit jobs.

He can't afford health coverage. He has never used government assistance and he refrains from seeing a doctor until the pain becomes unbearable, because he can't always afford the extra bill every month. So whats unfair? Public healthcare is a terrible idea. Our doctors and nurses are already angry with the low pay from medicare patients, and now we want to extend medicare like benefits to other people? 50% of doctors are thinking of retiring because of the bill.
Taxes on the rich eventually trickle down to us. Taxes on a rich company means the company will have to tighten its belt to keep workers. Some people will be laid off. Prices for goods will increase.
It doesn't seem like anyone is using their head.

My parents moved to Spain several years ago to retire. The Spanish health care system is far better than the US system.
My sister in law just got out of hospital here in the states, she has vasculitus of the brain, and she can not be seen by a specialist until April. My father had chest pains and was admitted to hospital in Spain the same week and had stents put in. He is doing very well, my sister in law on the hand is a different story. While she waits she gets almost no treatment.

I don't think that it should be extensive, but still. Not all rich people worked hard and earned it. Besides no one needs $30 million or more, when people work hard for next to nothing. There are many sides to the story. Who needs a billion dollars? Nobody, not when people can't even make rent.

"Rich" people are taxed loads on their income tax. (a % How much you earn in a year) how much you earn in a year=goods produced and sold in a year. People already rich aren't taxed on the money they have sitting in a bank. Income tax hurts those trying to get rich not those already rich. Who needs a billion dollars? Sorry yours was not good, mine was far better than anything I ever experienced here with healthcare. Ive never lived in Germany but I can tell you that UK's healthcare system is far worse than here in the USA. Massive waiting periods, Government rationing and denial of medicines. Terrible.

I lived there for 19 years and there were times when it wasn't good. it has gotten much much better in the last few years.
The wait times in the UK are now shorter thatn here, that is a fact and there's no way around it. Government rationing is a lie if you have lived there you know it as well as I do. Get a grip on reality will you.

The per capita murder rate in the U.K. is1.5 people per hundred thousand of population, the per capita per hundred thousand in the USA is 35. That makes our murder rate 23 times higher.

Yup my parents moved to Spain several years ago to retire. The Spanish health care system is far better than the US system.
My sister in law just got out of hospital here in the states, she has vasculitus of the brain, and she can not be seen by a specialist until April. My father had chest pains and was admitted to hospital in Spain the same week and had stents put in. He is doing very well, my sister in law on the hand is a different story. While she waits she gets almost no treatment.

I agree the corporate aspect, but you must understand that we already have govt run healthcare (medicare, etc) and is that working? Before Government began working with Pharmie and Insurance lobbyist, healthcare was exceptional.
Just wait til the gov't becomes even more involved, it is one small step towards you will slowly loosing more of your rights, the cost will rise (taxes, inflation, etc), and quality will decrease. Just wait and see.

The closed door meetings on the Hill regarding health care illustrate the lack of transparency which we were promised.
Americans who support paying higher taxes for government-run healthcare forget the efficiency of already-existing government agencies/efforts: the Post Office, your local DMV, Katrina relief, even the existing Medicare system illustrate how efficient such programs are. I'm sure this massive program will fix all that though, just as our government is transparent as promised!

To start, you may be happy with your health insurance and there may be 34 states that help with pre-X conditions but the real question is what about the other 16 states? People support a govt option because your hospitals and drug companies gouge the fuck out of your insurance companies causing you to pay unreasonable premiums or get denied coverage so they can stay profitable which they do in spades.

I think you may be a little confused here. When Medicare has to pay 2 to 3 times more than insurance companies you should be investigating the ongoing corruption of the AMA and various private hospitals. I once met a guy whose grandmother was charged $75 for a "saliva recepticle" by a hospital, turns out those tissues were pretty pricey. As for politcal corruption, shouldnt you have been more up in arms when Cheney was making millions through Haliburtons involvedment in Iraq?

You should absolutely be investigating the AMA and private hospitals. Medicare does not make up the billing amounts, the hopitals and doctors do, then Medicare has to pay the tab. You are simply being gouged by healthcare providers, this is why people without insurance could never pay and why copayments force people into bankruptcy. What is needed is severe restrictions on the upper limits of medical billing, this however will not solve the problem of lower income uninsured people.

That being said your best bet would be to crack down on the lobbyists (usually employed by insurance and pharma companies) so that your politicians are forced to do what they were elected to do: Look out for the best interests of their constituants. Until then your politicians will get bribed and you will get denied care for a profit. If a person is not filing a Federal income tax return, they should not receive any type of medical treatment.

I'm an Australian and we have public health care, it works really well. Nobody is left behind and nobody really misses the money. The government also provides a tax rebate for those who can afford private health care, Australians seem pretty happy with that plan.

Next under the plan if you do not get mandatory health care you will have a heafty fine.
