  • Rare vintage video of Ry's father in Initial D !?!!?!

  • What a great car. Big mistake when they changed the styling for 1986. If it aint broke don't fix it

  • Always loved these cars, to me it was only second best to the Datsun 240z before it. Both great cars, I would have got 1, but in the UK / Ireland buying 1 an FD RX-7 is not much more than an FB so I went for the FD. Love the rotary's though brilliant engine.

  • I want to to experience:(

  • wow only 10k new back then! Just goes to show how much the dollar has depreciated.

  • I used to have one, an '82 RX-7 GSL. It broke every single day of the year except Sundays.

  • I own one and it is super reliable, cheap to fix, handles like a dream and has tuning potential beyond belief! I know no other car that can both drift and take corners like a F-1 car with stock suspension.

  • wow i found the original sales slip for my 1981 mazda rx7 and it cost $14,758, and that was 2 years befor this car, and it didnt have many options put on ot

  • Back then it came with a bag of coke.

  • LOVE MY CAR!!!

  • Holy shit! ITS THE STIG!

  • My 82 has 387 000 kms on it, and it still runs strong. But I'm doing a 13B Twin turbo swap. She's gonna be a sleeper. :)

  • I had a '82 RX-7 and I miss that damn car. Really would love to get it back.

  • 10K.. like how much would that be in todays dollars?

  • @ClubAverage

    $55,000

  • "Front and rear swaybars!!" lol

Between the FB and the FC that I used to have, I definitely have to say the FB was

the wilder feeling one of the two. Awesome cars and get a much worse rep than what they really are. No, your not going to have to do a rebuild every 10,000 miles.

  • rx7 with veilside fortune wide body kit, BEAT THAT!

  • I prefer the 280zx but rx7's were nice.

  • @lynch5552933 I hope you mean the 280Z. zx's are terrible.

  • @SPEK240 check out my 280zx. THEN tell me they are terrible. Also, a 280zx was a faster car than the rx7 in every way. the rx7 only had 100hp back then.

  • I owned a 1982 Mazda RX7. They were very fast and super fun cars especially for the times. I loved it! I actually own a Ferrari 308 gtsi and it goes 0-60 in 5.9, so again the Mazda was a great bargain back then.

  • Look!!! Stig sitting inside!!!

  • see that thing handle the corners that guy gave it sum shit haha go the rx

  • the muzda experience!!!!!!!!! yea boi

  • wow, that's fast for 80s

  • I've owned 4 in the past and I want another one now :)

  • the potential to develop this car into a beast is just awesome.

  • My grandparents and uncles were in Glacier national park on the going to the sun road when this was filmed. They were telling me about it so I thought I'd check it out. Awesome!

  • Check out the list prices of these cars. Who can afford new cars today? They all look alike, too.

  • This was a beauty. I had an '81, 83, 86, and 91.

  • @RamonaFromPomona awesome! I had a 79, 81, 81 and 91 myself. silver, red, black and white respectively.

  • I have a 83 rx7. 63000 miles

  • The Mazda RX-7 it's excellent

  • Only ten grand... What a steal... The second gen IMO is a timeless peice of art... To this day

  • LOOK AT IT SLIDE!

  • dude thats the fuckin stig sliding that shit!

  • @sof1map Actually it's Rod Millen. See my earlier comment from three years ago.

  • Sa's rule, thats it . . . ;)

  • Is that the stig at the wheel?

  • Only 10000 Dollars???.::WTF this is very cheap for a sports car :D

  • that was a bad ass car in 1983

  • that ad was bad ass though...EXPERIENCE

  • 0-50??? Since when? LOL that's funny... but I love RX-7s. I've had 2: an '87 and '89.

  • is this rx7 better then the 1979 rx7

  • @coolrats27 Yes and no. It's an improved version of the same car, but a little heavier and higher priced.

  • that voice sounds like shaggy

  • I just love the mazda sports cars, I've had 2 miatas and 1 FC, no better bang for your buck

  • Comment removed

  • that dude was zoomin up that mountain lol

  • i wish they would drift cars on commercials like that lol

  • Love my Rx7. the buzzer is great, comes on to quick tho when uve got ova 330hp at the wheels

  • They can't advertise cars the way they have with this one in england , laaame

  • Why are they so expensive to insure?

  • My 2nd gen RX-7 is only $50 a month to insure, that's not horrible.

  • Thats a 2nd gen, i want one of these. one made BEFORE 86, the not ugly style.

  • thats cause ur not in ur teens.. i pay 160 each month for my insurance

  • they're not expensive to insure. I'm 21 and my 1983 is 43/month. That's freakin nothing

  • I forgot to mention......the thing had a choke in it, when do you EVER SEE that anymore??

  • Its called fuel injection and a variety of sensors.

  • Come from a family of American car owners, they wanted nothing to do with the Japs. I was the first to buy a Jap car and this was it. But I bought it used, so I didn't really GIVE my money to Japan, the guy actually went out and bought a Mustang. But this WAS the best vehicle I ever owned, you might hate the "rice burners" but this car was 1)reliable 2) freaking quick and stylish. I NEVER EVER had a problem with this car, not once, never.

  • Its 0-60 was about 9 seconds, same as the Acura RSX. Excellent for 1983, and par even for a modern car. And most Mazdas shine even better on the twisties, especially the rotaries.

    Cheap Civic/Corolla/Focus: 12s, Civic Ex/others: 10s or 9s for the fancy ones, BMW 3/Civic Si/Mini/etc.: 8s, flagship sports cars: 6s or 5s.

  • Nope No fuel injectors, corroborated!!!

  • the more you looks the more you like the Mazda experience

  • were they even fuel injected in this year?

  • no came in 84-85 on there gsl-se models

  • love my rx 7 even though its like 24 years old XDD

  • Experience! like the theme song and music, just right for a high performance top car like the RX7!

  • The more you look the more you like !

  • 87 RX-7. One comment; 13B>12A

  • well duh.. It's a later engine..

  • tru nuff. Although I must say, these cars are golden. Most people don't realize the quality of them because they are older, but these babys purr.

  • I have 1985 RX-7 for sale. Has front end bumper/body damage. Runs great! I had the motor replaced at a mazda dealer and have not put much mileage on it. Also has a fully new exhaust system. It is in North Eastern Indiana in the Fort Wayne area.

Send me a PM if interested.

    Make an offer

  • ill trade u for a roundhouse kick to the face

  • Sweet! I totally own a 1983 Rx7, and I love it. It's nice to see an old commercial giving the old 12A some props. The rotary is unlike any engine ever built, and with a little work can be really quick.

  • I love the 0-50 time... back when it was "illegal" to go 60mph

  • It was 1983. Fast for the time. It's respectable even today.

  • FYI all wheel drive eclipse, not to mention the lack of torque produced by a rotary, congrats on lookin like a douche.

    ps: Don't brag about a 6 sec 0-60 time, that's pitiful

  • u sound stupid just stfu n suck dick

  • Wait I sound stupid? You're right 4 years as a professional racecar driver and 3 of bangin your mom gives me no knowledge whatsoever

  • i race cars also but dont act like dickhead!!! the fact that the add is how many years old now and back in those days this would have been quite impressive makes you look like a real tool...oh yes what cc was your mini clubman race car haha

  • u sound stupid just stfu n suck dick

  • Lack of tourqe is made up for by a redline at 8k rpm.. This is a revving machine, nothing that you should compare with a V8 that over revs at 4k rpm..

And 0-60 in 6 seconds.. this was 1983.. That was rly good for a car below 10 000 USD at the time

  • 0-50 in 6.3s actualy. but yeah i know what your saying, who cares if it doent have allot of torque, try getting a v8 to do 8-9K rpm

  • That "beeep" when you redline it was awesome.

This was engineering genius. If people know the history of this car, they know that Felix Wankle actually was the original inventor of what would become the Rotary engine. Like most thing's, the Japanese took an idea and made it work. They did that to something else that we said goodbye to a few years ago, it was called the "VCR."

  • Exactly. One thing though, the inventor spelled his name Felix Wankel, and it's pronounced with a sharp 'v' sound.

  • All hail the spelling bee queen.

  • *bows*

  • I've owned three RX-7s, and my first one (and also my first car) was a 1985 which I still miss so much. I've owned more than twelve cars so far, and I still think that these rotary cars are simply the best sport cars(as far as you take care of them)

  • My parents had one, and it was simply a good car. Not as fast as my dad's Corvette, but respectable and fun.

  • She needs a little work but am getting a 84 for my first car... just need a new caliper on the left side, my friend needs room so he is just giving it to me and he has had 3 or 4 Rx7 about and he said this is one of the strongest 12A's he has had... I cant wait to get it and am never going to let it go.

  • wow i really misss my 85 GSLSE 13B. . I sold it to my cousin, he took it to Florida. . he customized the motor and ran 12.8 seconds 1/4 mile with just a little work. . someone stole it and wrapped it around a pole. .

  • my car looks just like that!!! ^_^ this is great... if i'd been alive when they came out i totally would have had one... hell, i have an old ass one now and i still love it ^_^

  • I had an 1984 with the rotary with buzzer at redline. I loved the f...ing car. still my favorite 15 cars later.

  • I have restored my 83 to it's original glory exactly as this video commercial shows it, same original color and all!. Thanks for posting this.

  • Nice to see the car in its prime.. I often wonder what it was like for Mazda back then, when all the RX-7 motors were blowing up at 100k

  • I sold mine ('85 GSL) with 153,000 miles and zero problems ( the secret was to change the oil every 2000 miles )

  • @vivrantflo Most everyone I ever talked to got well over 100,000 miles on them, and several got over 150,000. The RX-7 12A was the most reliable rotary Mazda ever built. I used one to replace the worn out dual distributor 12A engine on my '73 RX-3 coupe. It was a common conversion and worked VERY well.

  • I have an 84 :) I drive like that all the time

  • $9895 is cheap to buy a car at the time. really cheap.

  • no. $10,000 was a pretty damn expensive car at the time. And that was just the base model price.

  • No actually 10k is really damn cheap when you consider that base celicas a few years later were close to 20k.

  • wow man, for a new Rx-7 for that price at that time...

  • roflmao ahahah

    EXPERIENCE!!

  • i like the price!

  • haha i like how they said 0-50. times sure have changed

  • what 10 mph? lol coming from a carb engine thats not bad :)

  • EXPERIEENCE!!! ROFL

  • u gotta love the olskoo' random ad phrases!!! ^^

  • LOVE IT =D just love it

  • They were good cars of their time but the heating and ventilation system and models with aircon were quite stuffy;you couldn't heat the interior and demist and expect cool fresh fanboostable air from the facevents;it flowed warm, and even on air conditioned models when the temperature lever is set in the hot zone and the air con button is on the air still flows warm.

  • hell yeah thats gold, ive had a couple of these and have a S2 racecar now. this video reminds me of my driving style haha!

  • i have one of those they are so fun to drive

  • they much much more attractive than the modern day sports cars. Very clean lines and a simple straightforward interior. 0-50 in 6.3 seconds is not too shabby. Especially by 1983 standards.

  • i have an 83 gxlse its still in mint condition, i even use the original mazda oil filters, all regular maintenance is done and this thing never skips a beat, it purrs when it idles. collector car next year. yeah baby.

  • No you didn't, there was no GXL-SE, there was a base model, a GS, and a GSL for '83. There was a GSL-SE for '84 and '85 though. ;P

And AdmiralArcher, we did get the older model Rx-7s assuming you're in North America, i've owned two of them. I love them, but the gas mileage sucks.

  • WHy didn't we see the older model Mazda RX-7s? I bet they're way cooler than the RX-8s.

  • RX-8 is such, I mean such a waste of production. Mazda really should not have done that.

  • You should check out the Top Gear episodes about the rx8 vs. 350z.

The rx8 can turn out the same lap time as the 350z. It's one of the best handling cars on earth man.

Also the renesis engine is 240hp 1.3 liter naturally aspirated. It's a cool car.

  • holy crap.... the driver in the commercial knows the car pretty good, because he's going fast !! thats a pocket rocket !!

  • I recall reading in Car and Driver that Mazda had to hire rally driver Rod Millen to do the stunt driving for these ads because the stuntmen kept wrecking the cars. The first generation RX-7s were one of the best affordable sports cars ever.

  • yah rod millen also used a fb as a rally car and improvised a 4wd system in it. the fb's apparently has a tendancy to pitch the rear end out at high speed cornering

  • Yes, that's true. Rod Millen Motorsports made a VERY ported 300+HP 13B part-time 4WD early '80s RX-7 rally car. In the end, John Buffum's quattro was just too much and SCCA PRO Rallies were mostly won by John.

  • HAHAHAHAH FUCKING BOMB!

  • ya,I had an 85 gsl. It was a very fun car. Handled awesome. I now have a TII. Its just as fun.

  • I own a 1983 GS, and it's fun as hell and reliable. And as the commercial implies, it's about handling, not straight-line acceleration.

  • wat a cheap car!!

  • hell yeah but not anymore:P

  • haha...0-50 is 6.3 seconds! That was the shit back in the day!

  • great car

  • 1983 rofl 1994 model looks WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY COOLER

  • fuck that old skool is the only way to go
