Thanks so much for this video Graham. Excellent explainations for all the steps. I have recently tried this on a Prunus Cerasifera that I have in my garden, and voila, 6 weeks later I see root tips. I love your work. Thanks from South Africa.
How old or thick should a tree be before I consider doing this sort of technique? I've considered doing this on a Chinese Elm, but I don't want to risk maiming the tree.
Last year, I layered a 5 foot Japanese Maple with 3inch branch diameter in a similar size rootball... It is doing great now... It does seem very small, root vs tree but I guess the roots catch up... Oh , I used B1 in my moss and ran drip line into the moss... watered everyday with no fungus. Here in Southern California.
I could find any number of answers to this question from various sources, most of which will contradict one another ... so I'm asking you instead, Graham.
You say that this air layering technique is particularly successful on "broad-leaf" trees. What about the others? I have access to a pine, a spruce, a thulja and a juniper. I've now got all the necessary ingrediants at hand and I'm just waiting for the temps to reach plus.
Your work has really inspired me to try this my self. Could I use air layering on the branch of a large tree in my garden? So the tree remains in the ground but
Great videos! My girlfriend and I are huge fans of your work (and subscribers) Thank you for posting these! I was wondering, you mentioned that this worked with broad-leaf trees... How would the process differ for Cedars, Pines and Junipers?
Love your vids,,,,,,,,I'm having great success with some difficult to grow (apparantly) indoor Bonsai. And I have central heating!! So it seems with much care and attention it can be done. And I'm a novice.
I was looking for an early video of yours because I have a juniper that needs help but I ran across your new video. I am glad you create your videos. Thank you. You have very instructional videos. Thats what I like about you. Have a happy growing!

I wander if that small ball with a very thin layer of moss could be enough to develop an enough amount of roots for suporting a plant that big. Odd

i have i shimpaku juniper in my backyard and its spring so I was wondering about how long it takes to for roots to form
pyromaniac53 11 months ago
@pyromaniac53 Depends on many factors including temperature, vigor of the plant etc'. For a juniper I would expect one year +.

Your work has really inspired me to try this my self. Could I use air layering on the branch of a large tree in my garden? So the tree remains in the ground but
I gain material from it?

@GrahamWPotter Hello,I want to do airlayering myself on a sour cherry tree.
I wanted to ask is it necessary to water it?The airlayering will be 5 m above the ground,so it'll be hard to water it.
nemphis95 2 weeks ago
@nemphis95 You won't get any roots without water!

@ 1:08 it really looks like you're standing in a 4ft plastic pot lol.
That was a great description on layering. Explaining how the cambium needs to be removed will help many viewers! Good work Dude!
