Total awesomeness to the absolute max!!!! I shot this train 11 times at 11 different locations across the state of Michigan in July of 2009, vids are on my youtube account.
Engine 4429 will be on display from 10am to 5pm August 1, 2009. This Saturday.
Many YouTubers came from afar to Franklin Park for Railroad Days. Bring your camera and record the events then upload your videos to YouTube so we can all see. Meet fellow YouTubers and Rail fans.
Bring money and enjoy a Lunch at the New Crossing Grill, one block away from the Steam Engine on Franklin Avenue.
Great shots of a really fantastic train!! I especially like the last one... beautiful scenery with the trees and mountains and train coming through the curve-- was that one in Washington?? Awesome video!! Thanks for doing this for those of us that can't be there.
Thank you everyone for the positive feedback. The sound was awesome in the still air. Great sun angles too at that time of day. FYI scene 2 is not the main hwy (Hwy 14) along the gorge. Its more of a neighborhood connector road. Scene 2 is around MP17-18 in Vancouver, WA, scene 3 is around MP49-50 (near Bonneville Dam)
They need to take that P42 off, if there's one steam loco that don't need no assistance from a diesel it's the 4449...c'mon. Nice shots though! That living legend always seems to put on one hell of an amazing show! 10/5*!
I'm not a USA citizen. I'm from Chile (South America) and I want to know about some statisticals: How many miles of railroad tracks are electrified in USA? versus How many miles are diesel/steam services?
Here, in Chile, we almost don't have trains. Just a "Metro" train service, around 150 kilometers long and three or four first class services a day around 400 kilometers long, all electric type. It's a pity!!!
It is required by the FRA to have dynamic brakes on a train like this. Before the days of diesels with dynamic brakes trains had to stop a lot. It would a lot of congestion on our rail lines and could burn up the brakes on a steam engine.
Excellent shots!
Really seems to capture the romance of American passenger trains up to the end of steam.

Wow what a catch. I wonder what the drivers on that bridge thought when they saw smoke rising from below. That must've been something.

iam wating to see who responds to this answer , its very interesting to know
juvmol 2 years ago
Wow. That answer would take a lot of research. We have
track abandonment's every day it seems. I would
say 90% of all trackage is NOT electrified. Steam is
for Excursions or Museums. Diesel is the main motive
power in America for the railroads.

That's interesting. But you need dynamic braking when you do down grades like Marias Pass.
