Many would say david shepard is the best umpier but i say he is the worst umpier in the 99 wc semi final.He gave cronje the wrong decision.That made the huge difference at the end.He is also one of the reason of RSA loss the WC.

nobody seems to be talking about the no ball which was missed by the umpire...........bcoz i'm sure i read somewhere that "to add to south africa's agony,the ball bowled by fleming when donald got run out was actually overstepped............the umpire failed to see it / call it & the over stepping was seen on replays".............so sad,south africa always unlucky when it comes to cricket...........they should have won the 99 world cup.............

Can you imagine how much world cricket would have changed had Klusner not gone for that suicide run with two more balls still left?? Oz dominated world cricket for the next 9 years, and deservedly so, but how confident would they have played knowing that they were not world champions? How confident would SA have played knowing that they were world champions? Pointless as what happened happened, but interesting how much difference a run out and eventual tie can make...

Exactly what i was thinking while watching this. South Africa had a great team, easily the best in the world. If they didn't take stupid bribes, they'd have been the most dominant side with australia close by. But after this and the corruption scandal, they lost the plot a bit for a few years and played with no confidence. But nowadays they're back and have one of the best young talented sides in the world.

One of the greatest players in a world cup. should have won that semi-final but as it seems to do in the world cup, history repeats itself. the infamous 22 in 19 balls reduced to 22 in 1 ball cuz of the rain. and the 2003 wc against sri lanka when the rain interupted. bottom line is, when duck-worth louise is implimented south africa always lose. just bad luck i guess. hopefully albie morkel can do what lance klusener came soooo close to doing time and time again...

I am Pakistani and for me this guy was my favorite non Pakistani player in that world cup. He really took the wind out of my sails with the win over Pakistan in the preliminary rounds and Pakistan was on route to winning till this guy came out.

His hits were fast even in the slow motion action replay. What a player he was?!

Seems like klusener used to practice only hitting sixes in the practice sessions, probably tonked a few off smith and pissed him off ;), on a serious note it was his 'lets go fishing' comment after geting knocked out of 2003 world cup that did him in ( after the South Africa v Sri Lanka match- The D/L cockup )....But he still remians my favorite, hail Zulu!
