  • Mr. Evans is a superb musician and a real gentleman! He was very kind in answering email questions to me a few years back, and I live in the USA.

  • This guy is a notorious lyre.

I mean, the dishonesty in everything he is saying! What a lyre!

    Lol. Liar = Lyre.

  • There's better (prettier) lyre playing here (not mine):

  • someone take it away from him!

  • Why am I thinking of a claw hammer banjo? Is it just the sound? I am not a musician, but I find these things interesting from a cultural development angle.

  • I suppose one must resist the temptation to project our modern (highly African influenced) musical vocabulary onto an ancient instrument. This man's concentration on the percussive qualities of the lyre is quite sensible for that reason.

  • A lot of these conclusions are based on how we know the Greeks played their lyres. If that coordinates with African playing (not something I'm privy to) then all the better.

  • yes you are right. i am greek and i am really interested to our ancient culture. i have read about the ancient greek lyres, seen pictures of them. they look very similar with this one but prodused a little bit more delicate sound, like the todays orchestral harp. however all cultures are conected with each other and i find it really pleasant to find cultural similarities with other nattions..

  • that was brutal... he tortured that poor thing

  • Yeah, he did. He should learn what 'musical instrument' means.

  • man that guy can't play

  • Makes sense to me.

  • lovely
