Did he tear them doing that high intensity training? I read where he didn't even warm up . . . just went for the huge weight for one all out set to failure and beyond. That'll kill you quicker than a bullet. You need to do warm up sets if you use HIT.
@jimmcallister Yates was avid about warming up correctly. He only tore his muscles using HIT training during pre-contest. He has stated in interviews that he had wished he let up on the intensity a tad during pre-contest. But that training is what got him the Olympia.
@saintjames1122 Yeah, with the restrictive diets the guys use pre-contest you have to be careful how intensely you train. With little or no carbs coming in, all sorts of problems can arise.

Did he tear them doing that high intensity training? I read where he didn't even warm up . . . just went for the huge weight for one all out set to failure and beyond. That'll kill you quicker than a bullet. You need to do warm up sets if you use HIT.

@jimmcallister Yates was avid about warming up correctly. He only tore his muscles using HIT training during pre-contest. He has stated in interviews that he had wished he let up on the intensity a tad during pre-contest. But that training is what got him the Olympia.

@saintjames1122 Yeah, with the restrictive diets the guys use pre-contest you have to be careful how intensely you train. With little or no carbs coming in, all sorts of problems can arise.

@saintjames1122 Yup, Mike Mentzer trained hard and believed in hardcore HIT. Yates learned from Mentzer and took it up another level. But keeping this HIT during pre-contest caused various injuries to Yates.
