  • Guys, you fight a fight like this & it takes something out of each fighter. I think Cooper walked away with more damage.Mercer may have looked worse.Cooper has been in other tough fights as well. 4 Cooper to lose in his next fight against Riddick Bowe, tko in 2. I was very surprised. It don't think it indicated that RB was superior to RM. Skill wise RB better, but RM was tougher and took a better punch. If RM and RBwould have met, b4 they were champs.I think we would have cn a great fight.

  • please upload more ray mercer fights if you can.. he's great!

  • I dont judge tysons career as a whole .I judge his career when he did the right things in training, focus, conditioning and following the techniques of defensive first posture and using combiantion s and outjabbing jabbers, not a head hunting tyson who trained for no more then 2 weeks for fights once every year.its a joke.Tyson retired after he married ,kod spinks and joined don king. All we saw was a crude small heavyweight with a good punch, nothing like the old tyson!

  • R.I.P the Heavweight Division

  • @LVSWTZ Mercer got beaten by an old fart larry holmes,Tyson ate holmes 5 yrs younger for breakfast. Holyfield almost ko'd ,mercer with one left hook.another hook landing, mercer would be out.mercer was MADE TO ORDER for the classic 87-88 tyson, standing straight up.It would have been actually another one of tysons classic ko's and all the assholes including you would say mercer sucked like the rest of them!!.Tysons short left hooks would take mercer out.

  • @LVSWTZ TYson of 86-88 was better then tyson of 89-91,tyson of 89-91 was better then tyson of 96-02.How good was tyson 86-88? 8 title defenses tying frazier but tyson did it before his 22nd birthday.History making. At 21,he would have had a chance against the top 2 of all time.

  • @LVSWTZ Holmes already said the reason he came back in 1991 was because he new tyson was finished and would either be dead or be in jail.Once he abandon the techniques he learned,he regress in an alarming rate.after 1988 ,All you remember seeing is a head hunting one punch at a time small heavyweight with no more confidence and a poor corner and trainer. What he was was the top3 of all time between 86-88.He would have beaten holyfield, douglas and lewsi the day he ko'd holmes. You're an idiot!

  • @LVSWTZ Tony tucker, the night tyson beat his ass 9 rounds out of 12 ,that same tucker would EASILY outpoint Ray mercer. The mistake most boxing tyson haters make is that they judge tyson from his loss to douglas not understanding how intricate tysons style was that training and sparring with the best sparring partners like Oliver Mccall, and fighting on a 2 to 3 month schedule, made all the difference between a tyson losing to douglas to a tyson koing douglas in 5 rounds.

  • @fadethetrade why are the cute ones so dumb lol?

  • Did Mercer suffer a broken jaw?

  • These guys who stand in front of eachother would be blown out by a young quick tyson of 1987-88.His chin wouldnt last against the tyson short shots of 87-88.Holyfield almost knnocked o mercer and knocked out cooper.

  • @fadethetrade Even in his PrimeTyson's not the same fighter after 6 rounds if can't stop ray by then? It's Buster Douglas All Over Again even with rooney in his corner.

  • @LVSWTZ 87-88 tyson got stronger in his decision fights. He was trained mentally to go 15 by rooney for every fight inc. spinks. A much different tyson back then. His combinations could finish off douglas in 3 seconds.

  • @fadethetrade Ray came off the floor went to War with Holyfield losing a disputed decision then a went War Again with a Prime Lennox Lewis out jabbing him and taking Lewis' Hardest Punches and losing a very disputed decision. Prime Ray Mercer in shape was a monster with Bullet Proof Chin Win or loose he never quit and was never KO'D in his prime Like Holyfield he is Fearless in Tyson young or old in or out of shape ALWAYS Broke Down when the other guy fought back same ole mike Ray by KO

  • @LVSWTZ I don't need any more idiots to tell me about boxing.Tyson showed amazing heart taking shots from ruddock for 18 rounds and coming back and breaking ruddocks jaw. TYson that ko'd berbick would ko mercer in 2 rounds the same night!

  • @fadethetrade you do know tyson didnt ko everyone he faced right?

  • @thewelshviper Of course,in his classic period,he went the distance a few times but styles make fights and Mercer would be a sitting duck for the classic tysons short 6 inch shots that crippled everyone who felt it.Mercer would be too smart after feeling the short hooks and grab tyson and fight the same survival fight of Bonecrusher smith but tyson 87-88 had the stamina and chin and conditioning to go 12 and not be hurt vs Mercer unlike Morrison.TYson in 2 or 3 or 11 rounds to 1 decision.pick em

  • @fadethetrade i never thought mercer would beat tyson but i dont think it would be easy but if i had to pick how tyson would win i would say a 11 rounds to 1 decision with a chance of a knockdown or two from tyson

  • @thewelshviper YOu have to remember when someone fought the constant training,12 hrs a day.7 days a week tyson ,who also fought every 3 months, the frequency in his active schedule of title defenses has never been done from a champ since CLay 65-67,guys with the likes of cooper and Mercer, good fighters but CLass B. Classic tyson was too conditionind, able to take their shots and too skillfull for these guys to have had a prayer against a classic tyson.

  • @LVSWTZ Broke down when the other guy fought back AND HIT HIM,you forgot to add those last 3 words. 86-88 TYsons great skill was because he slipped the opponents trying to hit him back .That was part of his technique taught to him by Damato and followed religiously by Atlas and Rooney.Once he had the edge in defense practiced year after year,it discombobulated the opponents because tyson then became the ali speed counterpuncher off of their misses.Tyson would slip mercers shots.

  • @LVSWTZ Some people, especially tyson bashers, dismiss tysons first and far ,the best tenure,86-88,because of his losses to DOuglas and holyfield. But even Cus Damato said tysons biggest assett can become his biggest downfall, his lack of being elusive. His focus to become conditioned for 15 rounds(at that time in champion fights) and be the most elusive since ali.And he accomplished it but once he abandoned the most important asset, his elusiveness,it showed in his decline after 88.

  • I agree this was a slugfest, but at the same time I would call it a very impressive victory for Mercer. He took a block of stone with no quit in him and (IMO) clearly bested him, showing superior athleticism along the way (not to take anything away from Bert's courage). The young Ray Mercer had impressive skills in the ring: a legendary chin and an enviable combination of speed and power in his hands. I see why he won an Olympic gold medal!

  • Going into the 12th and final round I scored the fight: 108-102, Ray Mercer.

    Round 10: 10-9 (RM)

    Round 11: 10-9 (RM

After the 12th round I scored the fight 118-111, Ray Mercer. Despite there being a wide margin in my scoring I would say this was a closely fought match and is definitely an underrated fight in HW history. Gotta love Bert when he was in his prime the guy had a granite chin (as did Ray) and if you pause this video @ 3:06 you can see the damage done to Mercer's face. Great fight.

  • @gl514

My apologies I scored it 117-11, Ray Mercer. (I must have messed up the math somewhere.) And to further prove the damage done to Ray pause the video @ 5:34 and that is one bad busted lip and swollen jaw.
