this is alex jones fault peace to mexico look after your people ok you need to start hugging and stop fighting over drugs ok it upsets me to here everyday you guys are killing each other and no offence to the good people that have never killed
Hurricane Alex could be even worst, but thanks to former Governor Fernando Canales Clariond who builted several reservoirs. He helped to dimish damage to downtown Monterrey. Even now water is still running at Rio Santa Catarina coming from thos resevoirs. Monterrey are successful people, and they will overcome from any tragedy soon
I was recently there visiting my family. Its one thing to see pictures and videos and its another thing to actually be there. Im glad my family was okay but its sad to know that many many people lost homes and family members too :( theres not much water left now but it was pretty bad ):
Thanks for uploading this video. I haven't been able to find any good videos in Spanish on here but this was informative for people who do not know Monterrey.

22 years ago the Santa Catarina looked exactly the same when Gilberto hit. Nobody learns. The government gives people permits to build where they want. The ex governeor spent 200 million pesos, wasted now, building the walking and running areas by the river. But any moron could tell you that building in a dry river bed is NOT a good idea.
I agree--extremely short sighted to invest so heavily into the riverbed construction. I have been in Monterrey the past 5 years and always marveled at all the money going into this construction. It looked beautiful, but you have to wonder what on earth they were thinking. I imagine political favors--that's a lot of money for the architects and construction companies. Too bad officials don't pray about what they are doing.
@maston999 ...who never listens to whom??? as far as your comment to zharlye, en Mty. hace 10 años, sí habia guardias de los bancos, de hecho era seguridad especificamente para bancos.
@mapache11 I remember Gilberto and I was just wondering why they did the same mistake of building in that dangerous river, it killed lots of people 22 years ago and its amaizing it did not kill that many this time, wow 200 millions of pesos spent in that river wow, they don't learn the lessons of nature.
Let's see. Give rich people permits to build houses wherever they want. DUH. They widened Constitucion and Morones Prieto so that they extended INTO THE RIVER BED. DUH. The roads are built where the rivers and creeks want to run. Why? Because it's faster. The ground has been leveled by the water running there EVERY RAINY SEASON FOR THE LAST TEN THOUSAND YEARS. I feel for the poor people that lost their belongings. I have no pity for the wealthy ones.
@mapache11 What is your problem? It affected everyone, not only the rich and poor.
I was born in Monterrey raised in Houston. That city is so unique. What have the rich done to you, there the ones who move Monterrey. I'm not rich I work hard for the money I make. I try to improve my self everyday. There is something wrong with you. I feel at home when I visit Monterrey.
@TonyMtyNL ...my problem, and it should be yours, is that the government allows people to pay bribes and build anything, just about anywhere they want.
Why shoul dwe feel sorry for the people that decided to build their house ON THE SIDE OF A MOUNTAIN!!!!
@TonyMtyNL ..now they are talking about WIDENING the river. What a refreshing change. Thye should have done that 22 years ago after Gilberto. But everyone here is so short sighted they build a golf course, a bunch of soccer firelds with artificial turf and go kart track in a dry river bed instead. Really smart.
@isawanangel2 There was a huge hurricane in the 80's I believe it was, a category 5, but not as much damage, and then in 1909 there was a more destructive one. However this one, Alex, has dumped more rain than ever recorded. So the worst hurricane in over 100 years (101 years actually) is accurate.
