High 14's is stock 340 Duster territory. It'll never happen with your setup. If I were in your situation I would be happy with keeping up with a ten year old Kia at half the fuel economy. However there is a solution to get close to your dream 340. You can easily find a 360 in running condition for almost nothing out of dodge vans, get a little shaved off the head, get the bowls blended and a valve job, recurve the distributor and get a decent 4bbl and intake... all for less than $1,000.
@ThaRealGecko Undoubtedly the inline six has advantages depending on which one you build. The slant six is the one featured here, though. Yours has thirty more cubes and a better combustion chamber, wherein is your advantage over the slant six. Btw, polishing on a street inline six is fruitless. My bet is your putting out no more than 250 max.
@20alphabet its more to be unique, im building one cause its my only option and it would be interesting to see what it can do though high 14's is my most optimistic hope. though i long for a 340 to be under the hood of my dart i cant swing it with my budge so the slant six will have to do and my friend will still be blowing my doors off
You're looking @ 180-200hp at the crank max. Doug Dutra set up a much nicer 225 for a guy named Miko that got that. The torque is what makes the motor nice. Although I like the /6, I can get 70 more ponies, 80 more fps torque and 25mpg (or better) with a conservatively built 318 at only 40lbs heavier. But, slant sixes do draw attention at car meets.
I got a Mexican l6 258 (instead of AMC its made by VAM) and instead of 150 gross hp it made more than 170 stock, i rebuilded it, polished/shaved original steel head, cam, headers, replaced carb to 450cfm, intake, k&n, headers, straight pipe dual exhaust, electronic ignition, etc, now it makes more than 300 trq and 250 hp at 2000 RPM to the wheels.
the l6 engines can make alot of power with the right mods for very low budget.
@MoparAmericanMuscle it has the erson 270 cam it has .465 lift on 270 duration its a good cam and makes awsome power but it needs some compression and a little gear in the back to realy make it run good
Hemi orange with a black wrinkle valve cover. Very nice!

280-300HP is very optimistic :-) my guess would be 200-250 but that's just a guess.

Nice engine. your oil pump thing looks unusual. Is that where you put your oil filter straight onto
ValSedans 2 years ago
@ValSedans yes it is it has a little pipe that runs up that hadent been installed at the time, but it makes a mess when you change the oil
