I'm gonna take a guess at how one would go about winning the prize (even though it's not applicable anymore...)

Off camera, one could just get a blow torch and heat up the magnets until the reach their curie temperature, at which point they'd no longer have a magnetic charge (and they'll stay that way when cooled as well,) being careful so as not to overdo it and deform the stones... and then you fake it.
