You probably don't know that W. Bush used 1/20th of the amount of $ Clinton used in Bosnia ( another "unwinnable war" ). Also, W. Bush used only 6,000soldiers in the management of Afg for a country the size the Texas w/ a population 14Xlarger. In realisty, the American effort in Afg is just now starting. I recommend watching Max Boot, a military historian and Peter Bergen, an intelligence analyst & journalist debate whether or not Afg is a winnable war ( Bloomberg network Intelligence Squared)

The bloodiest year in Afghanistan was equal to 4 days of the bloodiest year in Vietnam in terms of KIAs. If history is doomed to "repeat itself" then should we not consider the history of doing nothing in Afghanistan which gave Afg a government willing to host Al Qaeda. Well spend over $100 billion next year to bomb a nation of poor people while we re-energize the Taliban, destabilize Pakistan, deplete our army and put more of our soldiers lives on the line. Obama has been very consistent about Afghanistan, early on characterizing the misadventure in Iraq as a steady drain on resources better utilized to roll up the Taliban. Now he is winding down the war in Iraq and ready to commit more to Afghanistan while working assiduously to make Pakistan a better partner in that effort. To allow Al Queda free play in Afganistan would be the height of ignorance and irresponsilbility, and Obama is neither ignorant nor irrsponsible.
