The late Kenny Everitt brought this to our attention in the early 80s. Had a lot of fun with this track ! Love the comparisons to other artists on this page...they're all possible ! Reggie was just one of many examples of wacky 'celebs' from the past. His forte was reading the ITV news a bit pissed !
At least they use instruments, unlike computerized crap posing as music today. Honestly if you took this track and just listened to the music and not the lyrics it's not half bad.
Okay, so this is on a list of worst songs in existence. I love a lot of disco songs that many people hate - I mean, I really enjoy 'em. Giving this a listen to see if maybe it's got a charm to it.
Well, okay. My first guess is that this was intended as satire, in the grand history of British-style humor, which is really hard to put into words (and I'm American). If this IS supposed to be serious, it's pretty awful, but I'm guessing it's supposed to be funny in which case yeah, it's very funny.
This song sounds like a British guy got really drunk, then randomly started reading song lyrics, while occasionally adding his own words, over a generic disco track. I love it.
I dunno, I kinda dig it. Maybe weird but its simplistic. I'm not saying that it is one of the best songs ever. It is definitely not some of the overloaded crap of today. Beauty in simplicity my friend. Now am I gonna go and disco to this, Hell no, but could I dig this song a couple of times, ya I think I can. As far as the worst songs, I can think of plenty more than this. RALPH!!!!! EARLLLLL!!!!!!!
A disco song recorded by a British newscaster, voted #1 in the Bottom 30 by listeners of British DJ Kenny Everett in a 1980 follow-up to his World's Worst Wireless Show.
This is a deathless work of genius from one of the leviathans of British broadcasting.
Incidentally, he's buried in the same cemetery as my late mother (Putney Vale). I think she'd be pleased, as she could see the funny side of this maverick newsreader. We shall not see or hear his like again!
At first I thought it was an impersonation of him, then I did alittle digging and found that he actually did do this record according to the vid description. It was said that he was ill advised to do it but I say good on him for doing it. Alittle weird but its still good. Not like the rest of the 'stuffed shirts' at the time. But then, there was Angela Rippon and her amazing legs....
Cheers for posting...I remember hearing this for the first and only time on Kenny Everitts Capital Radio show segment of the Worlds Worst records. Reggie was on the show and played a terrible record by Kenny-poo featuring the line "Aspidistra in her hand"...any one got that by any chance?
READ MY MESSAGE AGAIN. Everett did the world's worst records TWICE, and you never said a word about that, and you never said anything either about this being number one either.
as soon as he started... singing.... i burst into laughter!!

My word. It's like the Flying Lizards, but with a bloke. Like some kind of satanic cabaret. And he feels rather splendid.

I think they made it intentionally horrible. It's like a dance song for people that need in-depth directions for dancing.

Reggie |Bosanquet was a legend in the golden age of 70s TV. He regularly presented while drunk, slurring his words but somehow kept it all together.
Unfortunately TV is now obsessed with sweet, young, vaccuous things who can barely read an autocue (unlike Reggie who could after 9-10 pints).
