Thompson is a very smart guy but other than Misunderstood his songs are not top notch. I listened to Beat the Retreat tribute and some other singer such as Graham Parker and Dinosaur Jr did a better job with his songs.
His songs are not top notch? Well, you're entitled to your opinion of course. A lot of great musicians and songwriters would disagree, hence the tributes and covers. It's not for charity sake that they do them. Personally I think Misunderstood is somewhere in his top 50, probably somewhere between 20 and 30. But that's just my opinion.

The wind blowing around the chords on my washing line is more tuneful...Cant hold a candle to Chris De Burg...who...I once read.. taught Thompson everything he knows and has thicker more lustrous hair.
...which proofs that you can´t tell a talent from a shallow grave. Thompson is unpresidented - both in technical skills and feelings, not to mention storytelling!!
He goonerjimmy, we should avoid this kinda language you've been using, but you really made me laugh. People like frabjoe are frustrated to the bones. That's all.
Well, unfortunately you took that "hater" comment as directed toward you when it was directed to frabjoe. U-tube likes to mix those reply's up, so not your fault.
I grew up listening to my older sisters' Neil Young albums and have a few myself.
Some heartonhissleeves songs: Dimming of the Day, Walking on Wire, Keep Your Distance, Night Comes In, Just the Motion, King of Bohemia. And I do get chills hearing Misunderstood, it's just that there are so many chillmakers Rt has penned.
sorry, that's Walking on a Wire. There are good versions here on youtube of most of these songs.
And I almost forgot one of my personal favorites, A Heart Needs a Home. I'm also restricting myself to his mostly acoustic folky heartonhissleeves songs. There is also the electric stuff.
The rock and roll hall of fame this year is inducting Bobby Womack, Run-D.M.C., and Metallica. Then I listen to this. There is no justice in this world. What a genius RT is.
I love the young dude grooving on the song at 3:54. Gives me hope that younger generations will catch on to RT's brilliance.

I think anyone familiar with his work, would lay at his feet just to hear what he had to say... A crime he is not bigger..but his integrity intact.
