can u give me advice on how to do this type of video because im going a similar one from Detroit,MI to Tampa,FL on I-75, i get a new camera from a Best Buy in Detroit and then i start the vid from detroit to tampa,FL
@SkyloftLink Unless a video camera has an intervalometer feature, they are not usable for long distance trips as they take 30fps and you'd run out of space quickly in that mode. Converting regular video would also need software to pull every Nth frame to create a time lapse. The iSight I used is a video web cam and combined with the software on my laptop, I was able to choose every Nth frame and save just those.
@SkyloftLink If you want to just use a camera, buy a small still point & shoot digital camera with a built in intervalometer. That feature would likely be buried in the menu system somewhere. Most digital cameras do NOT have that feature. Set the image size smaller than the native size as this process requires a lot of recording space. Choose a size no smaller than the video output size you are targeting.
@SkyloftLink First read the description under the video. That tells you the tools I used. As noted in a post 5 days ago, I used an inverter to power my laptop. I now use my CameraTime iOS app.
Sorry to double post, but I'm driving from Detroit to Québec city in just over a week and I want to attempt something similar to this, how did you go about mounting the isight? and how long did you find the MBP battery lasted? The drive itself is just over a day, so we'll do it in two.
@cynicalbluewhale To rig the iSight, I used bungie cord to fix it to the passenger visor.
I had an inverter plugged into the cigarette lighter that fed power to the laptop. At the beginning, I had forgot to plug into the inverter and I think it lasted about 1.5 hrs.
I now use an iPod touch with CameraTime, an app I wrote and available in the App Store. I have a cigarette lighter adapter for that too for long drive sequences. Unplugged starting with a full charge, it might last an hour or two.
i'm from mississippi and i went to my aunt's wedding in albany,or. after that me and my family went to vancouver going through portland and seattle than back to albany. then i went to stay at my uncles house in la for a month. it was awesome all the way from vancouver to la and san diego since i went to the zoo there too
It's interesting the way the mountains scenery change as soon as one reaches northern California where its mountains are full of trees while the mountains in southern California are clear of trees, and the nearby area look like a desert.
Nice roadtrip. Watching it was sort of funny because I just did San Diego to Portland just a few days ago; big flashback. I got dizzy watching the footage from Shashta/Southern Oregon...brutal zigzagging!
And just before getting into Vancouver, I loved it when after hitting that big turn BAM the mountains are suddenly straight ahead.
I like the ones near the end of the video because they aren't so over exposed. The time to get under them also gives you some idea of scale compared to the local road items.
You should send me the full 35 minute video this is very interesting. what parts did u not record? and if u dont mind me askin how much milege did u get befor u put (fill-up)
My 2000 Trooper gets over 335 miles on the 22 US gallon. Keep in mind that to bring that 35 minutes down to 10, I had to cut things out. So what seems like short times between fill ups, may not be correct.
I think I missed several hours in Oregon because I thought it boring. Mistake. A small section just out of L.A. was missed because I think I hit the stop button for the software. A very small 20 minutes was missing in Vancouver.
I can't see sending the whole 35 minutes. I currently don't have the time to mess with this large project.
Yeah, Motel 6 was one of my regular stops on my way from Vancouver to whatever city I was traveling to. Good times, but glad Im not going back to that place anytime soon!
Nice video...loved the stop at Tim Ho's at the end.

wut is the music called?

@WindowsGeek12 As I recall, the music is some a mix from Garage Band samples that I put together. I'm not the musical talent in the family. LOL!

It was fun to first see the results. I wasn't sure what to expect and had much the same reaction as you did. :)
I'd like to do the same trip again, but in HD and with a wider angle view. Maybe some day, using an iPod touch.
