I think the thing I love most about this, aside from being a totally beautiful work of animation art kludged together by a handful of neckbears working in their garages is that from a narrative thematic standpoint, it just destroys fandom and its iconography. Fandom is a plague, a curse and needs to be dealt with the way a surgeon deals with cancer: With a high powered x-ray laser and a shallow pit somewhere in the desert.
@hikari2905 Indeed. That power armor was created by Kazutaka Miyatake for a Japanese adaptation of the novel in the early 80s. This was its unofficial animated debut. The mecha design appears again in the Uchuu No Senshi/Starship Troopers OVA from 1988.
Funny. They took a stereo remaster of the music - much like the one I uploaded to Youtube a while back - and mixed in the original mono audio track. So you get the sound effects, though rather quieter than they originally were. The music was remastered somewhat sloppily, as it conflicts with the mono audio frequently. They should have used my audio.
Incidentally, these are decent LD rips. It'd be interesting to go to town doing a proper remaster. More than Vdub filters, anyway. Someday.
