Thanks for the song. This is on of my favorite Eddy Arnold recordings. Reminds me of WWII when so many "walked alone" waiting for the return of their loved one. Some of them, like my brother, didn't return. I think of him and his girl friend when I hear this song. I hope she has had a good life.
It would be nice if we had some artist with talent like this today. Artist of this generation sure new how to reach the people. RIP Eddy Arnold. Gone but not forgotten.

They are not the same song. I Walk Alone/Did You See My Daddy Over There was recorded in 1945. I believe it was his 3rd or 4th record release that year.
You used to be able to get that information on LP Discography but they have changed their format and no longer list single record releases. So I can't tell you the record number. However you can now get past issues of Billboard online.
NAOMI, YOU CHOOSE THE BEST OF SINGERS TO POST. EDDY ARNOLD WAS ONE OF THE BEST SINGERS OF ALL TIME. THANKSFOR SHARING THIS PRICELESS VIDEO. GOD BLESS, MARGIE
its no secret what GOD can do look at the voice he gave eddy this takes me back when songs were songs and singers were singers i cant recall a bad song eddy ever did cause thier were none thanks for this great one
This song reminds me of the war years-1942-1945. Eddy Arnold made some great records back in the 40s with Little Roy Wiggins playing the stright ahead country music guitar.
There is a much better version of this beautiful song on "The Eddy Arnold Show" that was on the radio in the late 1949's. I would post it here if I only knew how to do that. Clarence
Wonderful post Naomi, this guy was not only a very talented writer, but he had a very smooth and lovely voice. He wrote a string of hits. Thank you for sharing this!!! Mark

HELLO NAOMI! Thanks for a great share! Enjoyed it so much; it had been a long time since I heard or thought about this one. My Mom dearly loves Eddy Arnold and I'll be sure to share with her. Your Friend, Mike
My mama used to play her guitar and sing this when my dad was in the Army during WW II...even after 63 years of being married, it still brings tears to their eyes. THAT'S LOVE!
In 1955 Eddy recorded a song titled I Walked Alone Last Night on RCA Victor 6290 (# 6 Country) with The Richest Man In The World (# 10 Country) on the flipside, I'm assuming this is, in fact, the same song now shown as I Walk Alone, and covered in 1968 by Marty Robbins (# 1 Country/# 65 Pop). Can anyone confirm this?
Alan, we all love free speech, but sometimes there is a time for censorship. A couple of the comments could be removed without any real harm done to our free society.
I totally agree. I did not know about a few morons talking smack about someone I have always loved & admired. Rest In Peace Eddy, you will not be forgotten.
WHAT A VOICE!! There is no singing thru the nose with this guy!! Country may have never made it past the Rock and Rollers if it was'nt for Eddy bringing in that ( Nashville Sound ) Elvis was a big fan of Eddy..Farewell my friend glad to have met you!!
I am Detroit. I am a punk. I am rapper. But I sure like Eddy Anold.
