R.I.P Oum Chhoun Malai.. She passed away this evening. She's 1 of very best oldies singer. My family & hers are very close. Loosing her is like loosing a member of ours also.. R.I.P Oum
Not that i'm biased but Malay's version sounds far better than the original. ok i'm biased.Hers came out in '69 when khmer repertoire run out of local stuff. '69 also saw an official backlash against China's influence in Cambodia (chinese schools were shut, chinese signs taken down etc..). the gov't-owned casino had run for over a year to boost tax receipts, only to close early 1970, with leading daily Nokor Thom trumpeting Ros Serey's "Thgnay niss thgnay chhea.." . Still, la vie etait belle..
Nice covered song. I like the chinese original version, too, even though I do not understand it. I love both the khmer and Chinese versions. Thanks for the link to the Chinese version. I appreciate it. :)
i loved listening to this song. I thought i heard it before and that was some lady with a sweet voice perhaps it was sothea or more recent like sreynich that sang this song. anyhow, great song. jeff, what can i say, another outstanding achievement for bringing another khmer oldie. very much appreciated for uploading great great musics. god blessed you son. btw, i'm probably not much older than you but anyway good to call you son or shall i call you buddy. lol
I got the cover from a Wat Phnom CD, the Choun Maiai Collection #1. I bought it at the Mietophoum National Library and Cultural Center in Long Beach, which opened earlier this year. The owner of the place (who also owns the Wat Phnom CD label) has the original record cover, which he added a little text to in order to make the CD cover. I used photoshop to undo his changes for this video.
Thank u for my mom comment
