  • Audio out of sync?

  • For a time, between 1962 and 1964 [at least], Universal (later known as Waste King/Universal) co-sponsored the show with J.B. Williams [Geritol, Serutan, Aqua Velva, et. al.], and as such, their arrangment included an "integrated commercial" for one of the sponsor's products during the show. Here, the three Lennons (they were a trio during this period, until Diane's return in 1968) pitch their hair dryer AND coffeemaker...

  • @fromthesidelines Almost correct... Dianne returned in the fall of 1964 !

  • I remember those bouffant hair dryers with the hose attached to the motor unit. It all packed up into a neat little suitcase. I traveled everywhere with one when I was in my teens. I don't remember blow dryers coming in until later. I also remember sleeping in rollers to get that perfect coiffure. No messy hair back then! What we went through to be beeyootiful in the fifties and sixties!

  • Was the oldest sister I think her name is Diane? Already gone? There was Peggy, Janet the baby and Kathy.

  • @Sheri451 Yes, Dianne"Dee Dee" hadn't started back yet,but she did soon after this was made !! She left in 1960 to get married and start a family !

  • This is a dream. I collect vintage hairdryers... and this was such a thrill to see!!!!!

  • If I was alive back then, I would of bought that coffee maker just because of Peggy. :)

  • katcummings, if you haven't read their autobiography, "Same Song, Separate Voices", you must! It is one of the best autobios I have ever read. You can get it at Amazon. I grew up watching The Lennon Sisters and I love them still.

  • I have read the book three times now. It is the most interesting book that I ever read. It is definately a must read for any Lennon fan. And if you weren't a fan before ,you will be after.

  • I am a very young lennon sisters fan with a VERY old dad and while I'm over here being all nostalgic about his time period he probably only noticed the lennon sisters in these ads! haha! my mom KIND OF understands why a feminist youngun would LOVE the lennon sisters but not really... I discovered them by myself at 20 years old in the year 2009 AND GOD i love them. So much. So to all those cranky old men out there, THERE ARE STILL YOUNG GIRLS WHO EMULATE THE LENNON SISTERS! ME INCLUDED!

  • lol..and today there are even boys who emulate the Lennon Sisters :-)

  • You have no idea how happy I am to hear this Kat! Don't ever change!

    Norm

  • i wish they still have commericals like this these days! i love the singing!

  • I could use one of those whisper-quiet hair dryers. Do they still make those?

  • Ha! That is soo funny. I love it! Thanks for posting! :) Why can't people sing their way through commercials nowadays?!

  • There are only three?

    Where's Denise?

    Haha.

But seriously, I would totally buy one of those.

  • No Denise!! Dianne was off raising a family!

  • The Lennon Sisters had a lot of influence back then so I would think they were at a premium.

  • Forget the Gold Standard--They were Platinum.

Where do you hear that kind of harmony today?

  • ha i think i just shit myself.

  • I would buy one!!
