It was not about him being gay. He used that as a pretext. Sure she was not openminded about it, but him using his boyfriend to shock her in that fashion (having sex under her roof without even asking), instead of gently outing himself isn't the most sensitive thing either. Not to mention that even after she accepted it, he still insisted on torturing her, so it wasn't about her not accepting his sexuality to begin with. He was a spoiled brat and that's about it.
